I strongly agree with this statement because the most function of education at any level is to develop the personality of individual and the significance of his life to himself and to the society.

One of the education's purposes is to make the students become eligible workers who can contribute to the society. Therefore universities and colleges should supply some courses to train students to be productive workers.  Recently a survey conducted by the department of sociology in PeKing University revealed that 62.4 percent of freshman are concerned about the employing rate of their major students. Whether they can get enough training or part-time working experience is critical factor when they choose which university they will study in. The society's development is based on numerous productive workers and the education play an important role in training productive workers. These workers included all kinds of workers, so university should supply different training for diverse discipline students. For example, psychology students practice in psychological clinic; engineer students take an industrial attachment scheme in related-fields; business students practice in a bank or commercial company; science students gain research experience as a student help of their supervisors.

In spite of training student to be a productive worker, the education also play the role to make the student be an all-round person by means of enriching the personal life. First of all, the education should broaden the student's horizon by supplying various elective courses. For instance, liberal art education for engineer students is essential and vital, because they can learn skills for good interpersonal relationship and leadership as well as oral and written communication skills. Secondly, the education should also inoculate students with values what we shared: honesty, fairness, tolerant, self-discipline, fidelity to task, friends, and family, personal responsibility, love of country, and belief in the principle of liberty, equality, and the freedom to practice one's faith. In addition, the education should encourage students to take more extra- curriculum activities and provide some facilities. For example, the interest-teams, such as music, sport, movie, language and so on, will attract more students if schools appropriate money to support interest-teams' development.

In conclusion, enriching the personal lives of students and training students to be productive worker are important responsibilities of education. So I agree with the speaker's assertion that both aspects should be equally devoted to.
