Who you should be:
1. Have a Bachelor or Master's degree  in bioinformatics, mathematics, engineering,
biostatistics, or computer science.
2. Good academic standing (non-probationary status, and 3.5 GPA or above)
3. Experience in programming languages such as Matlab, R, C, C++, and Java.
4. Efficient with scripting languages such as Perl. Familiar with Unix OS.
5. Sufficient coursework in statistics, mathematics.
6. Experience in machine learning and data mining.
7. Demonstrates proficiency in oral and written English.

Desirable Qualifications (but not required)
1. Demonstrates working knowledge of biology
2. Training in bioinformatics in areas such as sequence alignment, microarray data
analysis, and next generation sequencing.

What are the opportunities:
conduct cutting edge translational informatics research related to cancer at
the University of Hawaii Cancer Center. Develop computational methods for integrative analysis of multiple types of high-throughput data, suchas gene expression microarray, DNA methylation, histone modification, and next generation sequencing data (such as RNA-Seq, CHIP-Seq, and exome-Seq) related to cancers. Other projects could be: make computational prediction of microRNA targets and functions genome wide; or develop biomarker classification of cancer diagnosis/progression in  population based studies.
