To improve the quality of education, universities should spend more money on salaries for universities professors.
There is no exaggeration to say that quality of education has cause increasingly grave concern in society, and a myriad of steps have been taken to promote the education’s quality such as raise the salaries of professors. However, through careful consideration, I don’t think it is a wise way to advance the quality of education.
Granted, promoting the revenue of professors maybe, to a certain extent, an incentive to improve their performance on teaching. But actually, lots of professors claim that the students’ education has no relationship with their teaching, and the factors that affect the quality of education hinge on the students’ intelligence. They may think they desire the increased income just due to the long-term teaching in universities, ignoring the universities’ intention to spur their efficiency or competition of teaching in order to promote the education’s quality of students.
Moreover, if universities have enough budgets, they can invite some famous professors to give a lecture in campus, which will make students acquire a lot of knowledge, thus elevate the level of education. For instance, my college invited a physicist to give a lecture about nuclear energy last year. My classmates and I learn a lot about nuclear energy: how to protect yourself from nuclear power, how to ultilize nuclear energy, etc.. This lecture really expands our outlooks and lets us know the knowledge you learn in campus is not enough, forcing us to read more out of classroom. As a consequence, the knowledge scale of students will be broadened, which means the quality of education has been promoted.
Last but not least, apart from academics, universities can invest some money to facilitate students’ lives. Some trivial things in students’ lives may impede students dedicate all themselves to the studying, because they have to share some energy to deal with unnecessary things like the erosion of ceiling in dorm, lack of WIFI in campus. These can distract students from learning, result in the bad performance of students, further affect the quality of education.
Based on the reasons presented above, spending money on the raise of professor income is not a good idea to improve the quality of education, we can invest money to academics or infrastructure of campus to achieve this goal.
