168. Critical judgment of work in any given field has little value unless it comes from someone who is an expert in that field.

Are authorities in certain field always right? I think it is not the case. Anyone will make a mistake no matter who he or she is. What's more, even if their points are considered as right and valuable, who can insurance their ideas are not just approximate to the actual situations? In my perspective, anyone's proposal and idea should be respected and carefully considered, especially in the fields of science and politics.

Admittedly, I generally agree with the statement that the proposals and views of experts in certain field always are correct and valuable because they own rich knowledge and experience in this field. Thus, they would know how to solve some problems with great efficiency and impulse the advancement of projects, research, or plans effectively. What's more, because of the authority of these experts, people around us often believe them and follow their instructions. However, sometimes they will commit fallacy and do something nonsense that they consider to be true. For example, Einstein who was famous for his intelligence and accomplishments in physics insisted that the Theory of Quantum is unconvincing. In short, we cannot always trust the authority's statement.

In the sense of this view, we can find ample evidence to support it. First of all in the fields of science, there are so many breakthroughs and accomplishments made by some people whom no body would believed at first. It is tempting to think that the example of one of Pythagoras' students. Pythagoras believed that each number can be expressed by the proportion of two integers. However, a student of his provided the evidence that the length of diagonal of a square with sides whose length was one can never be expressed in that way. This idea leaded to the mathematics mess and revolution in the history and changed mathematics to a great extent. Therefore, in the science fields, proposals and ideas of anyone should not ignored and just thrown away.

Moreover, in the political activities and the management of our countries or states, simply following the order and command of political leaders and governments should also be avoided. In our democratic society now, the hosts of a country are the people, and the politicians who are the workers employed by the public to manage the matters of the country or states have to follow the will of all the people, or in most cases, the will of majority they serve. A leader, the authority in a country, who insists his or her command despite the protests of the public, betrays the democracy and our trust. In this case, we have to depose and punish the leader rather than accept and be submissive to the order. In a word, in the field of politics, the voices of people are what should be considered as valuable.

In conclusion, I concede that in many occasions, we can benefit much from following the proposals and ideas provided by experts in certain fields. Beyond this concession, however, attitude and mind of others should not be ignored. In balance, a better balance between following the authority and considering the opinions of general people should be our ultimate goal.
