答案是CEH  解析上说although often  和but the most是连在一起解释的，但是although和but不是不能连用么？我觉得but句应该是对Murray has been eminent hereabouts for a quarter century这句话的转折，这样第二空应该是填负向词把。求问这样理解哪里有错？

这道题目当初没想的那么细，直接吧although,but连起来了

如果第二个空是negative的话那么第三个空应该是加重了doubts。这样的话性质上来看只有whet合适。但whet作为stimulate和doubt不合适。
我感觉这个地方but 像是个bug。虽然有although作为插入语，但是前文已经结构完整了，所以需要but这个连接词。【语法上不了解，是不是although作为插入语可以和but一起用？】

恩恩 我觉得作为插入语although/but就能一起用了。
