PhD and visiting scholar positions are available in mechanics and materials, in particular, porous materials, flexible and stretchable electronics and structures, energy conversion, soft-hard integration, and soft adaptive materials, at the Department of Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering, University of Virginia.
(1) PhD positions:
Candidates with good skills in atomistic/molecular simulation (MD, DFT, etc.), finite element method (ABAQUS, etc.), multiscale modeling or computer programming (FORTRAN, MATLAB, etc.) are highly encouraged to apply. A M.S. degree or equivalent qualification in mechanics, materials science, mechanical engineering, physics or related disciplines is preferred.
Every PhD student will receive a financial support to cover all expenses to study and live at UVa. Candidates with excellent and strong research records (e.g. publications in top journals) will be considered to award distinguish fellowships such as GEM Fellowship, Rolls-Royce Fellowship, and Jefferson Fellowship (Deadline is January 15th)

(2) Visiting scholars/students
Visiting scholars/students with similar research interests in engineering science are welcome to join our group.
