Hi there?
This is Kai(Kaiguang) Zhao. I was brought attention to this post about a week ago by a student. After going through all the replies here and several other related posts, I laughed quite a bit: It is funny to see yourself implicated in a situation like this, blamed for something you never said, and labeled as 'SB' by a totally stranger ( I mean, fcsfcdcadx). Whatever, I care nothing about how "fcsfcdcadx" thinks about me and OSU. I have been reluctant to make clarifications to reveal my innocence. The reason why I finally decided to show up here is that the rumor from '"fcsfcdcadx" already jeopardized my recruiting effort this year: Two great Chinese applicants to my program withdrawed their applications; I felt one of them was misled by the rumors here.
A few quick points and clarifications here:
(1)To "進藤光_House". A BIG THANKS to you. Not sure who you are. I really appreciate your help to spread the words about the phd opportunity for me. That means a lot.
(2)To "XDM-9". Also, much appreciation for all your posts and messages. I quickly went through some of your old posts and messages. I think the information you shared is very helpful, although it may be not appreciated that well by many other readers here. Even, others like "fcsfcdcadx", may misinterpret your information, simply because they don't enjoy the ways you presented yourself. Regardless, your style is kinda along the same line as my former advisor, Li Xiaowen, who recently was a popular figure on the internet but passed way. His posts had good shows of his strong personality.
(3) To "fcsfcdcadx". I can see you are a hater of OSU, and it is not my job to change your such a view. One thing for sure is that you really made many factual mistakes in your posts (e.g., https://bbs.gter.net/thread-1797331-1-1.html); some has been noted by "XDM-9". My first impression is that you just simply go too far in extrapolating ur experiences. Many of your views or suggestions to others are simply too immature. I was an active user here more than 10 year ago; at that time, I was as naive as you now, but the good side is that I never gave wrong/misleading advice here for something I was unsure; otherwise, it could be very detrimental, even in a very subtle way (I lost a good candidate because of your rumors). Whatever, that is the price you have to pay for relying on free discussion boards.
(4) To others: Indeed, I am still looking for graduate students at the PhD level, especially those who are interested in ecological modeling (e.g., niche modeling, range shift, and forest dynamics), climate change sciences (e.g., food security, climate-agriculture interactions), ecoinformatics (e.g., Bayesian-based ecological analyses ), and geospatial modeling (e.g., remote sensing). Students, if preferred, will have the opportunity and flexibility in developing his/her own research topics in related areas on environmental sciences.
More than ten years ago, I myself was told millions of times that you should never choose a AP or a Chinese or India professor, but when I made my final decision, I declined an opportunity to work with a Nobel Laureate winner, but choose to be the first student of an AP. Regarding who to choose, my general thought is that who to choose all depends on opportunities, personalities and all other personal factors. In my circle, I've never seen a professor who constantly pushes students. It simply makes no sense to push students to do research or publish if they don't like what they are doing or their career goal is not on academia but industry. I do have a lot to tell but really don't have time to share. The advice from this post may be helpful to those who want to do good research and survive in academia: http://blog.sciencenet.cn/blog-799731-702653.html.
Finally, my thanks should go to "ghdxsfs". Without your rumor and ill-purposed speculative, I don't think I have this opportunity to make an ads here for my phd positions, but I don;t think I am a growling beast.
