問題包含轉JD ,找工作OPT ,可否到商學院修學分 修課, 教授書單可否先知道 可以先買 或是有二手書之類的
问题:Dear University of Minnesota Admission Committee Director of International and Graduate Programs Hornsby,
I am the LL.M. admitted student for 2015-2016 Business Law LL.M. classes, and I have some questions about the UMN school policy to us LL.M. students.
First of all, I am wondering that is it possible for LL.M. students who wish to study J.D. program after finishing their LL.M. program to transfer J.D. program without LSAT? Or they should have the LSAT score and they need to apply independently to J.D. admission process?
In addition, I got lots of information from University of Minnesota law school website, and I know the differences between Business law LL.M. program and General LL.M. program with a certificate in Business Law concentrations. However, could Business Law LL.M. students take the some business courses credits provided by University of Minnesota Carlson School of Management?
Furthermore, I realize that there are varieties of companies in Twin Cities, and If I want to get an one-year OPT position in the U.S.(especially in Minnesota), is there any assistence or opportunities for LL.M. students from University of Minnesota Law School? Also if students who want to take NY bar exam, is there any assistence or classes provided by UMN law school?
Finally, could university of minnesota law school allow students who wish to have a part-time job in school during their one-year research, such as working in a library or bookstore? What's more, can we know the "textbook list" before the classes start and where can we buy the textbooks for classes? I know some schools have the "Books buyback policies" at the beginning of the fall semester, and we could still wait until that moment.
Thank you so much for your patience to reply my questions and I really appreciate your help. Hopefully, I can get any responses and feedbacks soon from you! Thank you again in advance.
答复: I'll happily address your questions.
Yes, you can definitely apply to transfer to the JD program from the LL.M. program. You do not need to take the LSAT. The transfer decision will be based on your academic performance during your LL.M. year.
Also, you may take courses at the Carlton School of Management during your LL.M. year. In fact, some law courses are cross-listed with the business school. You are required to complete 24 credits to earn your LL.M. However, you may take up to 32 credits of courses during your LL.M. year. Also, 2 of your 24 law school credits can come from Carlson. Thus, you could potentially take up to 10 credits of business courses at Carlson if you wish.
You will have full access to the Law School's Career Center during your LL.M. year and after you graduate. Our career counselors would be happy to assist you in finding opportunities for your OPT. Though be aware that we cannot guarantee a position. And, yes, we have a full list of courses that the NY Bar has specifically approved for preparation for the bar exam.
Regarding work during your LL.M. year, we strongly discourage it. And, frankly, most students find that they do not have time to work during their studies. We suggest that students focus their time on their classes. This is especially true for someone like you that is considering transferring to the JD program. Your LL.M. grades will be very important for that process.
And, finally, a list of required books for courses will be available in the late summer a few weeks before courses start.
Please don't hesitate to contact me with additional questions. You are an important part of our admitted class and I want to be sure that you have the best information!
