'Quackers' sounds were heard by the Russian sailors during their submarine missions. The lecture and the reading passage both explore the source of the 'quacker' sounds. However, they have different views on the subject.
First, the speaker states that orca whales live near the surface of the ocean. However, the submarines only stay in a much deeper area. In addition, if the sounds had been made by the orca whales, the submarines would have detect them. This challenges the reading passage which claims that the noise were made by orca whales during their mating process.
Second, according to the speaker, the giant squids are always in the water, and they live till today. However, the "Quackers" sounds only appeared between 1960s and the 1980s. Again, this refutes the point made in the reading passage that Giant squids were the source of the sound.
Third, as the speaker points out, the strange "Quackers" sound move around whereas submarines cannot change their course or directions. In addition, the submarines would make noises which could be detected by the submarines. In other worlds, they have to be silent in order to be "invisiable". What's more, even today's submarines cannot travel that fast. These run counter to the reading passage which suggests that the sound may be casued by some military technology.
