Duke wl 转正＋Columbia QMSS 求大神给建议

一直在潜水 也感谢寄托这么久以来的陪伴
求大神们给建议啊 之前潜水了很久天天刷offer榜却一直等不来自己想要的offer 四月份运转收到了 可现在又开始纠结 毕业导向自己也不确定 想过继续读PhD但是也并不是特别确定自己到底有没有能力读下来 毕竟本科学校较弱 也没有机会接触太多牛人 研究的经验也不多 觉得拿到master之后找工作好像也挺好
我都为自己拎不清楚的性格捉急 还请大神们帮忙分析分析
对了 还有一个很重要的因素就是学费生活费 哥大和杜克的性价比到底怎么样？ 毕竟不是富裕家庭的孩纸 money还是要好好考虑的

cong！duke和疙瘩学费都蛮贵的。。。可以去program site具体看一下，duke如果没有tuition waive观望给的数据是一年学费生活费7w$左右。

这么说的话哥大和杜克也差不多了 哥大貌似一年差不多得要8w 而且QMSS好像只是一年的项目

恩是的~duke ma是18-24个月，不过两个项目确实都贵，LZ好好取舍~

I would go to Duke if I were you given that finance is not a problem; this would give you more options (maybe you want to do a phd latter on). or uw madison is good too (it should be better than columbia with the same regards)

So could you give me more information about why Columbia is less desirable ?
Actually a lot of people vote for Columbia because of its location, reputation and life in NYC

I know that the reputation of ms in econ and ms in stat at Columbia is not that good here in us.
on the other hand, one year masters is hard to prepare you very well for your future pursuit (i know there are exceptions for some top quant fiance programs but some of their students already got some other ms degrees such as cs or even some of them already got phd degrees in physics...)

Columbia launches its MA in Economics program in the 2015-2016 academic year. I do not really see where the "reputation is not that good here in us" comes from. Mind showing any source?

Vote for Duke if you are not a big fan of metropolitans and considering pursuing a Phd degree a possible option upon graduation. The good thing is you are not likely to end up at a wrong place either way.

sorry, yeah Columbia just launched ma in econ this year; the reason why i got that impression was  that when I went through application process for econ phd in 2012 - 2013, some students posted some negative information about columbia masters program(s) (stat must be one of them) on gradcafe and urch forum; i believe you know these two forums are good information source here in us;
anyways, the common opinion is that a good master program should be rigor enough and that is the reason why american students thought some top canada research oriented masters program outweigh most us porgrams; my impression is that duke (2-year program) is one of few us programs recommended by american applicants.
OP could check their masters graduates placements on their websites for duke and uw madison.

It would be fair enough to say that the MA in Stat program is not an ideal "stepping stone" program for students who see themselves in further study after receiving the master's degrees. Any thoughts on QMSS or it was what your previous comments referred to? Thanks for sharing anyway.
