Research Assistant (RA) Position details
Two (2) fully funded 4-year Research Assistant (RA) positions are now available for Mechanical Engineering PhD/MS students interested in any of the following areas in Dr. Chen Ling’s lab in the Dept. of Mechanical Engineering, University of Akron (Akron, Ohio).
1. Human Factors Laboratory Research
2. Data Analysis (e.g., Signal Processing and Bioinformatics)
Funding for MS students is up to 2 years. Students with interests outside of the areas mentioned above are also encouraged to apply.
Students fulfilling positions above will work on funded project by National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), or with collaborators from the industry, including Microsoft and Diebold. All positions are expected to start in the Fall 2015 semester. The RA position comes with full tuition waiver and competitive stipend. Requirements
Applicants must have a bachelor/master's degree (or near completion) in Industrial/Systems Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science/ Engineering, or Electrical engineering. Solid background in experimental design, computer programming, artificial intelligence (knowledge engineering, machine learning, and robotics) is highly preferred. Strong programming skills are required. Proficiency in Python is a great plus. Requirements at department, college and university level must be met. No requirements for GRE verbal.
About Dr. Ling
Dr. Chen Ling’s research interest is in cognitive systems engineering of complex systems to enhance system safety and efficiency. She has studied human decision makings in aviation systems and weather systems. Her research has been funded by Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), National Science Foundation (NSF), Department of Transportation (DOT), and Department of Commerce (DOC). She has published in top journals such as Behavior and Information Technology, International Journal of Human Computer Studies, Ergonomics, and Theoretical Issues in Ergonomics. Being recognized as the leading researcher in her field, she is in the editorial board of two journals - International Journal of Human Computer Interaction, and Human Factors and Ergonomics in Manufacturing & Service Industries.
Dr. Chen Ling is an Associate Professor of Systems Engineering in the Mechanical Engineering Department at the University of Akron (UA). Prior to joining UA, Dr. Ling worked as Assistant Professor in the Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering at the University of Oklahoma at Norman.
