作为英国这边的Financial Math的PHD,抛个砖:
HKUST Fin Math:
I will say the program structure is good (i will say it is even the best among the choice here on this aspect), price is reasonable, reputation is solid (of course same for UCL).
Location is good enough (not as good as london, but if you count in the difficulties of getting a job in Lodnon than HK...)
Dont suggest to use it as a springboard to PhD........reason?......well, their placement record towards PhD is on their website also, so you can have a look and you will understand.
Full time 100? I will say you think too much.
In general the acceptance rate won't change too much.....30K deposit is just a piece of cake if one is going to pay the US tuition and thus it is totally not a concern......and this should be already reflected in the decision of previous year.
and for the recent political reason.....i don't see the reason why the acceptance rate against US can increase (though I don't really think that's a valid reason, but people from the closed-China does)
UCL FM
indeed.....given G5, no need worry about reputation. so called 认可度不高 is a joke indeed.....you will get the interview, and then the rest depends on the interview.
that's true that UCL FM is the worst within G5 (doubt if cambridge should be in the list), but as long as the program is still solid, and it is a target (i.e. G5+warwick), it is enough for job hunting already, the gap between them is not really that big, and no one cares (unless you get admission from both)
and in UK, MSc is very useful for PhD also, and UCL did take their own MSc student to their PhD, so the reputaiton is totally not a problem.
indeed I will view the potential concern of it to be........UK funding is not really that much, and thus the competition towards a funded PhD is really...tough. but I think it will be stil worth considering as you dont have to restrict yourself to academic funding, and restrict yourself within UK for PhD.....
Edinburgh:
dont see the reason of going to a physics master given your goal.
Comp Stat & ML VS Fina Math:
Other than the program itself, I think the academic interest and career goal is also a major decision factor.....
P.S. i.e. vote for UCL
[If have time machine]
indeed....if someone who plan to do a PhD in quantitative finance (after MSc), I will seriously suggest consideration the ETH UZH MSc QF (before any other MFE):
1. most solid MFE curriculum in the world
2. low tuition, 700 CHF per semester
3. top faculty, one of the best in Europe
4. 3 semester, with enough time for thesis
5. close connection with industry, potential industry master thesis
their downside are not concern for this group:
1. difficult visa - PhD, i.e. visa not a problem. go germany if things go wrong.
2. low reputation in far east - again, who cares? |
