28"Students should memorize facts only after they have studied the ideas, trends, and concepts that help explain those facts. Students who have learned only facts have learned very little."
Should students always study the ideas, trends, concepts before they memorize facts or otherwise they would learn little? I fundamentally agree with the contention of the title[argument是不是也可以?]. In my observation, ideas, trends and concepts not only facilitate the memorization of fact but help us grasp the essence more easily. Moreover, the mission of education[不用mission,改成education also urges students to understand the internal essence underlying the facts.似乎更简洁一些] also urges students to understand the internal essence underlying the facts.[behind the facts怎么样?]
First of all, by exploring the ideas, trends, concepts and internal relation, students would learn more about the meaning and truth and at the same time[at the same time前后是不是都应该加,] less likely to forget it as time pass[passes]. For instance, consider the issue of memorize[memorzing] the chemistry periodic table of element which is radical demand[radical: of or relating to the origin : FUNDAMENTAL似乎basic requirements就可以吧?] of students learning chemistry. Understandably, if a students resort to rote memorization without regarding the relationship of elements and the feature of individual elements, I am sure that[I am sure that可以不要] his diligent action[his deligence更简洁] rewards him with little knowledge and even the little knowledge is more apt to leave behind the head. On the contrary, another student who successfully recognize the relationship among elements will find the periodic table of elements is so easy to learn and more incline[inclined] to memorize it in[少a] long time. The fact reveal an interesting discipline that our brain possess[少es] a powerful ability to make logic thinking, so if we present our knowledge with a associating net rather than a scattered point, it would help us memorize knowledge in a long way and learn more correspondingly. Therefore, it is in the best interesting of students themselves to study the ideas, trends, and concepts except memorize pure memorization.
Moreover, it is the mission of education that call for the desire that students should not only favor the pure memorization but stress more on the ideas, concepts and meaning underlying the facts. Obviously, no one can deny the essence of education is to develop a well-developed personality including the capacity of logical thinking and analysis and the ability to challenge old things, to be a creative mind and to question the facts. According this mission[似乎task更好], it is particular important for students to foster that ability in their daily studying and in the process of acquiring knowledge. But how to cultivate those crucial competences is the primary question pose[少ed] before us. Can we rely on pure memorization? Certainly not. This way is uncreative and sometime vulgar. Then the most effective path[way好一些] inspiring these capacities is by encouraging exploring ideas, trends and concepts. Only in this process students can not only practice their creative thinking, enhancing the reasoning and analyzing ability but more important equipped in those significant ability, they could handle whatever life may present including all the unknowns[unknown不应该加s] in the future. Without those abilities, this is without the original and creative mind, how can students achieve their own success in the future, threatening not only the splendid future of their own but the survival of the whole country.[句子结构似乎不对]
As to the effect of study, students only appreciate[appreciating] rote memorization indeed learn[learns] very little, not because they miss the ideas, trends and concepts, but more important they loss the opportunity to enhance their ability in analysis, reasoning and creative problem-solving which play an immensely role in their future. So students who consider study is only memorizing, many us believe, is a victim of adverse circumstance, deprived the most important merits in twentieth century.[句子结构似乎不对]
To sum up, in a vacuum facts are meaningless, and only by filling that vacuum with reasoning, analyzing and creative ability can students learn, by gaining useful perspectives and insights about facts. Yet, since the most effective and direct way is emphasizing on ideas and trends under the facts, so in the final analysis students should stress on concepts, ideas and trends instead the facts |
