guys, you ever thought about Educational Technology (sometimes they call it by
Instructional Technology or Instructional Systems Techonology) as an
alternative to TESL?
as far as i know it, Educational Technology combines Education with Computer
Science, which is, needless to say, better than TESL or Mass Communication,
unless you love these two the best.
and there's plenty of schools in the States offering this major, and i tell
you, scholarship is not that hard to obtain.
anyway, the decision is yours at the end of the day!

people, when you consider applying, please bear in mind the following: don't
just go for the big names like TC Columbia or UCLA or whatever you name it. ask
in your first email to the schools whether full (or partial if you do have some
nest eggs yourself) funding is possible. they'll tell you honestly.
so, if the school says no we don't have full/partial funding for international
students in this major (we are talking about Education aren't we?), then drop
it and go for those who tell you that funding is possible.
these are words fr om my application experience. so what i did was first of all
get the top 50 (graduate) Schools of Education from usnews.com, then emailed
all of them asking two questions: 1) whether they have the major of my interest
and, 2) whether they give full financial support. then most of them replied,
some said yes some said no, as you can imagine. that helped to sized the list
down to just several. yes, there are not too many schools of Ed that offer too
much money, but, what i think is: it helps a great deal if you know which ones
do in the first place, so that you don't need to waste your money and time and
efforts and emotions and, you know, everything.
lastly, i'm an english major too. i've been hearing people saying all the time
that there are not enough choices for us when we apply to study abroad. well,
of course, we probably would not have chosen English as a major (which now
turns out to be not a major at all!) had we known that it could give us so
limited choices today. but, i guess the best policy is not to complain or
regret but to see what we can do now and make the best out of what we have,
right, people?
bottom line, listen to what other people say and make your own decision! |
