Speaking from my own experience: When I applied for law schools years ago, UM was on my list. At the end of the cycle (late April), UM was the only school which did not tell me whether I was admitted, rejected or waitlisted.
Here, I only voucher for my own experience. I love UVa and its people. 夏村是个很有魅力的地方。不管是在中国还是在美国,UVa 的校友,一定会互相帮助。
I think that UM, UVa and Cal are the best public law schools in the country. Since they sit in three different regions of the country, pick the one you like. UM has a great football program and its basketball team used to be good as well until Izzo showed up.
In terms of weather, Michigan is a cold place to live, much colder than Beijing. (Washington D.C. is similar to Beijing in terms of latitude, but with much more moisture.) It is not uncommon to have almost six months of winter in Michigan. But cold weather can make a person tougher and stronger. That's why Big Ten schools are known for toughness since that is in their genes. The spring in Michigan is mesmerizing after the long, cold winter with flowers booming everywhere. However, spring only lasts about two weeks. Then summer shows up. In August the temperature may hit 100 during a heat wave when people gather in public library to cool down themselves (not everyone has air conditioner at home). Fall is colorful in northern Michigan. Make sure you spend a weekend or two driving to the huge sand dunes near Lake Michigan.

Thanks a lot for your information. This is really helpful. I like the words "But cold weather can make a person tougher and stronger." A winter with 6 months long sounds a bit intimidating though.
Speaking of the people at UVa, I have been interacting with admitted students and UVa alumnus for a couple of months, and they are indeed very very nice people. I enjoy being with them. Perhaps this would drive me to UVa at the end of the day.
