Competition Description竞赛简介
Composing a personal statement is an intellectual and artful task, a type of writing that bears influence from the memoir and manifesto, academic argumentation and exposition. The personal statement often signals a hinge-point in a life or career, yet these pithy pieces of writing are rarely recognized or shared outside admissions offices. In this competition, personal statements will be judged on originality of voice, writing craft and strength of logic. Essays that have a distinct narrative and take on substantive issues with clarity will also be seen favorably.
撰写个人陈述是一项兼具智慧性和与艺术性的任务，一种在学术性的论证与阐述和个人的回忆与宣言的影响下进行的创作。个人陈述的写作往往代表着生活或职业生涯中的一个转折点，但这些精辟的写作却很少为人所知或是向招生委员会之外的人分享。在这场比赛中，文书的评审将以其论述、写作手法和逻辑力度为标准，但我们也非常欣赏那些具有出色叙述性并立足于明确的实质性问题的文书。
Prize奖项设置
本次比赛将会在参赛的2016-2017学年本科、硕士或博士申请者所撰写的个人申请文书中选出七篇杰出文书获得现金奖励，单项个人奖金高达5,000美元。
•一等奖 5,000USD •二等奖（2名获奖者） 2,000USD •三等奖（4名获奖者） 500 USD
大赛的奖励是对参赛者所付出的努力和创作出杰作的嘉许，我们认为申请文书的写作是表现自己的写作能力的严肃机会，而不仅仅是一个用以申请学校的工具。
In this competition, seven cash prizes of up to $5,000 will be awarded for outstanding personal essays written for College, Master’s or PhD applications written in the 2016-2017 academic year: The competition prizes mean to celebrate achievements of those who labor on their personal statements, seeing the task as a serious writing opportunity, and not merely a hoop to jump through on the way to admission.
Eligibility参赛资格
参赛者需在过去十年间就读于中国国内的教育机构，且参赛的个人陈述（也称为“目的陈述”）需是于2016-2017年申请季（2016年10月至2017年3月）期间撰写并提交。该申请文书必须为明确以申请某个有认证的美国院校而撰写，申请的学术领域不限。此外，参赛文书的原稿需以英文撰写（非翻译）。
为何这个竞赛只限中国学生参加？： Pepper Editing一直以来寻求以英文书写来促进更多的文化欣赏。对于来自中国的学生而言，学习美国的语言和文化虽是一项艰巨的任务，但其带来的益处却也是非同一般。近年来，中国在美国求学的学生人数急剧增加。对于这些学生而言，越早掌握强大的英语沟通能力，就意味着越好的学术体验和更为丰富的文化交流。撰写杰出的申请文书是理解美国语言和学术文化的重要早期步骤。Pepper Editing希望帮助这些学生提高英语学术写作的能力，进而促进全面地英语沟通能力的培养。因此，本次比赛将在中国受过教育并且向美国的学术项目提交过优秀个人申请文书的学生作为重点参赛对象。虽然这次比赛的重点关注中国的学生，但我们期待着在未来赞助面向其他国家学生的比赛，并且非常乐意接受来自世界各地的客户！如果您有任何进一步的问题，请随时联系我们。
Qualifying essays should be written by a student who has studied at (an) academic institution(s) in China* for the last 10 years and who wrote and submitted a personal statement (also referred to as a “statement of purpose”) for an application within the 2016-2017 application season (October 2016-March 2017). The application must have been submitted to an accredited American college or university, in any academic field of study. Additionally, submitted essays must have been originally written in English (untranslated).
Why this competition is specifically "China-Wide": At Pepper Editing, we continually seek ways to promote a wider-culture of appreciation for strength in writing in English. For students coming from China, the hurdles of learning the American language and culture are significant, as are the rewards. In recent years, the number of students from China seeking an education in the United States has drastically increased. The earlier these students can aptly communicate in English, the better their educational experience and the richer are cross-cultural exchanges. Writing an outstanding application essay is an important early step in understanding American language and academic culture. We see improving academic writing skills in English as an aspect of this phenomenon that we at Pepper Editing can positively affect. Thus, this competition focuses on those students previously educated in China who take initiative to craft outstanding personal essays in English for American programs. While this competition focuses on China, we expect to sponsor competitions that focus on other sets of students in the future, and we happily accept clients from all over the world! 流程：参赛作品需提交电子版，请前往 www.pepperediting.com/competition-submission 上查找提交页面和详细信息。 要求：个人文书参赛作品必须以PDF（便携式文档文件）和Microsoft Word文件（.docx或.doc）格式在五月二十八日结束前提交。

在选出获奖者后，所有提交的作品都将在七月十日至十四日期间收到电子邮件回复。很抱歉我们无法回答其他关于文书质量的任何疑问。 All submissions will receive an email response after the winner has been chosen the week of July 10-14th, 2017. We cannot answer any queries about the status of essays.
