Dose some nonmainstream areas of inquiry play an important role in society? I agree with the speaker insofar as those areas only serve as a supplement to mainstream science and as a psychological pursuit. In this sense, nonmainstream areas satisfy human needs to some extent.

To begin with, nonmainstream make function in explaining myriads puzzles. Especially in ancient era, human being always hold blind worship and relate irrelevant but nonscientific methods when they can not explain the relation of something and their causes. Some times people depend on some astrology, fortune-telling and other nonmainstream to distinguish the truth. For example, people living hundreds years ago , also cannot explain the cause of "E1 Nino" one kind of strange phenomena, the unusually warm waters that would occasionally form along the coast of Ecuador and Peru. Local people without enough scientific knowledge believed that there were something out of their control thus resorted to some paranormal pursuits. That is why they gave it a name a mane:E1 Nino ( Spanish for “ the boy child” m referring to the Christ child, Noticing This phenomenon typically occurred late in the calendar year near Christmas. Today the term El Niño is used to refer to a much broader scale phenomenon associated with unusually warm water that occasionally forms across much of the tropical eastern and central Pacific. From this case we can see that nonmainstream have play an important role to explain phenomena especially in ancient time.

Further more, nonmainstream areas not only serve as an explanation, but also as an entertainment serving people’s need which mainstream areas inherently cannot. Nowadays, with the increasing intense pace of work, study and living, it is easy for people feel tired and exhausted to some extent that they need to relax themselves or even escape from real life. Never this is more true than when people faced with infinite choices, experience uncertainty, insecurity and confusion, thus feel remorse, regret and guilt. Nonmainstream could satisfy certain favor. For instance Many people enjoying themselves in playing trod card—one kind of play relying on the stars to foresee one’s life. Maybe nowadays people no long believe there are some nebulous authority outside their themselves to control them. However it is so comfort when told they would become rich, promote soon, and come across a beautiful girl, for example. Understandably, it is a solace when shift the burden of difficulty and intense morden life to some imagination in nonmainstream.

Admittedly, nonmainsteam areas play an important role meeting the human's need, however, it is detrimental to stick on them, since they could not replay mainstream areas. Actually it seem fair to say it is mainstream that hold more truth than that of nonmainstream. Take astrology for example, if some people believe what tarot card told about, this so-called entertainment can too easily serve as convenient excuses for irrational and unreasonable actions that harm others. On a personal level, stubborn adherence to irrational beliefs in the face of reason and empirical evidence can lead to self-righteous arrogance, intolerance, anti-social behavior, and even hatred. Moreover, on a societal level these traits have led all too often to holy wars, and to such other atrocities as genocide and mass persecution. In a word, it is arbitrary to uphold a nonmainstream subjects.

To sum up, nonmainstream play an crucial role in satisfying the human's need of entertainment and curiosity, yet they could not replay the mainstream areas. In doing so, they risk making ill-conceived choices for themselves and unfair judgments about others. Best way to treat them nowadays is that regard them as an psychological pursuit,  relishing in them while let mainstream as guidance.

Mainstream areas, such as physics, chemistry, psychology and so on, which are characterized by highly developing science and technology, have witnessed and directly created the unprecedented civilization and prosperity. While nonmainstream areas, such as astrology, fortune-telling and psychic and paranormal pursuits, also have been developing as the mainstream areas and play some roles in some people lives. The fact of a public controversy over that the nonmainstream areas play a vital role in society, Although I know some people maintain that these areas benefits in satisfying human needs that are not addressed by mainstream science, I, personally can always what play a vital role are mainstream areas, not nonmainstream areas.

It is recognized widely that no sound and sufficient evidences are provided in the astrology, fortune-telling and other nonmainstream areas, which are called "science" with the some meanings of superstition. Though maybe, sometimes, they can bring about temporary satisfaction in the spirit to the people, for the true-life needs and the progress of society, what they can play and help is so jerkwater that even if the public believes in them, the unwanted loss is caused for the confusing belief. For example, there are different evil organizations in some countries, like Fa Lun Gong in China, Aumuzhenli in Japan and so on, which always lead the people to be lonely and prejudice against the public and the truth, even the justice, so to large extent it cause some panics to make the society unstable.

On the other hand, the public should not credit these "sciences" lacking the scientific evidences and reasoning, although they encourage and satisfy the people in the spirit needs. A recent survey in German showed on the journal <Mainstream science>, a famous journal sold once best for more than 6 months, revealed that among 324,245 people from various levels who accomplish the investigation, approximately 87.3% of them indicates that nonmainstream areas play less important role than the mainstream science, and they would believe the latter rather than the former, meanwhile nearly 20.7% admits that nonmainstream areas sometimes give them some hope and encouragement to help them get out of life shadows and disappointments. That is to say, the public should learn to tell the good or bad effects of the mainstream areas, and never trust them too much, because they, after all, have few evidences to support their correctness and validity.

Admittedly, we have to accept the fact that they still exist in our lives, jobs and even studies, no matter how we do our best to avoid them. The reason is that everyone expect to get success, happiness and high statuses, so they anchor their hope on the outside force could help them whether he works hard or stay at the previous place. The information from nonmainstream areas sometimes bring them exciting hopes, though it is ungrounded,   the people would rather believe it is true, especially when they are in difficulties even in danger and they do not know what to do, and as a result, some ones might go out of the corners depending on the only hope, while some ones may lose their hearts to continue to struggle and wish to see the wonder wholeheartedly. Therefore, we should do every things according to the mainstream sciences, realize the harm of  nonmainstream "sciences", and try our best to make full use of them to some degree.

To sum up, from what has been discussed above, and based on the analysis, we can come to the conclusion that nonmainstream areas are impossible to play a vital role in society because of their being unwarranted and unfair, although they satisfy human needs sometimes.
