Dear Mr/Ms. Zhao:

Thank you for your inquiries about our PhD program in Medicinal
Chemistry at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor!

You have asked about requirements for acceptance into the program.
We do not accept any students for study toward a Masters degree,
so the information below is about our PhD program.

All of our students have their tuition paid by the College of
Pharmacy and they receive a stipend of $20,500 each year to live
in Ann Arbor.  Many of our grants and fellowships that pay the
tuition and stipend require that the student be a US citizen.
Because our funding is very limited for foreign students, we can
only accept 1 or 2 each year.  For these few positions, we receive
40-60 applications every year from foreign students.  Because the
number of accepted students is so small and the number of
applications is so many, only the most accomplished students are
accepted into the PhD program in Medicinal Chemistry.

In general, the foreign students accepted into our program have
GPA's close to 4.0 on a 4.0 scale (part of your application fee
goes toward translating your school's GPA into our 4.0 system so
that we can accurately access your application).  The accepted
students have GRE scores over 85% for every category (scores like
V 700/Q 750/A 5.0 or better).  Though a Masters degree is not a
requirement, many of the students who apply have a Masters and
that makes them better prepared for graduate school.  Only one
foreign student in the last several years was accepted without
a Masters degree.  All accepted students have research experience
for 2 years or more.  Most have published papers in scientific
journals.

The GRE subject exam is optional.  Toefl score must be 560 - paper based or
220-computed based. (我TOEFL是593) So you do not have to retake the exam.
Commu
nication
is essential in all academic situations not just in the lab or class.
Financial support is given to all admitted Medicinal Chemistry students.
