You are 'in' the running at all those places, given good GMAT(comparing to Chinese and Indian!), Ok-ish GPA from long time ago, and what you say is intense work experience.
For older applicants with more than 5 years working experience, the schools also really key in on WHY NOW--so you have to make that a part of the presentation. Other than that, there is not much I can add, you say you have excellent work accomplishments, and I am sure you do, but so do ALL older applicants. Most people with 10 years of work experience do, and as I have stated in the past, the schools look at leadership potential, and they expect GREAT accomplishments after 10 years. What is called great accomplishments after 10 years for those applicants? a position such as Lucent's General Manager in charging of Southeast Asia demonstrated GREAT accomplishment and can be accepted by a Top 10 b-school. As to which schools to apply to on your list??? Again, you need to figure out where you want to be when you graduate, and which school will get you there. One key element in my analysis is where current grads are working and which companies recruit at the school. You can break out of that band, but it is hard. You should have recs stress that your verbal skills are excellent, given rather outstanding verbal GMAT score. Schools with average GMAT at ~700 get nervous when either V or Math falls below 90 percent, esp. math, but verbal too. As to HBS/Kellogg: unless you can make out some POWERFUL set of stories, esp. about race, gender, class, diversity, etc. I think H/S are long shots. Stanford is particularly GMAT/AGE biased unless you can deliver some show stopper essays. For Chinese applied from mailand, you have to proved a top-notch GMAT like 800 or 790 (in year 2003, the lowest GMAT of mailand Chinese admitted by Stanford is 780). Honestly, there are HUGE difficulties for your to be admitted by a Top10 b-school even you could take a 750 GMAT since as what you tell us your might not be able to demonstrate GREAT accomplishments.
Let me show you a tipical candidate (or MBA student's background) for those Top 10 - 20 US b-schools:
Nationality: China (mailand)
GMAT: 730
TOEFL 657
Acad background: M.Sc in Mechanical Engineering, UG GPA 3.7; PG GPA 3.5;
W/E 5 yrs, the Head of South China Marketing Dept, General Electric (Shanghai)
you'd better take a GMAT make sure higher than 730; in sum, you may try Virginia, USC; UNC Chapel-Hill, Texas-Austin. |

I've often wondered how we met.
Oh how quickly I do forget.
These last five years have flown by,
So fast that I want to cry.
I love you dear with all my heart.
I can't imagine life with us apart.
You're my best friend and that you'll stay,
Until the very end of days.
Forever in love I will be,
As long as you are here with me: http://www.zju.edu.cn & http://dmse.mit.edu
