Governments should focus on solving the immediate problems of today rather than on trying to solve the anticipated problems of the future.
Write a response in which you discuss the extent to which you agree or disagree with the recommendation and explain your reasoning for the position you take. In developing and supporting your position, describe specific circumstances in which adopting the recommendation would or would not be advantageous and explain how these examples shape your position.



The world is getting more complicated than ever with problems emerging everyday. The hard task of solving various problems fell on the shoulder of government. In my opinion, the government should focus on solving the immediate problems of today rather than on trying to solve the anticipated problems of the future as immediate problems is affecting people’s welfare directly and the anticipated problems may not even exist anymore once we fix the immediate problems.
Immediate problems should be considered as priority since in most of the cases, they’re more bound with everyone’s current welfare. On one hand, the government will face lots of pressure from the public if they fail to take active measures to deal with current issues. For instance, British people voted to leave the European Union and then the British prime minister Teresa strove to implement this Brexit but failed to fulfill the mission. Out of pressure, she had to resign as a prime minister. The public put lots of attention to immediate problems and thus generate lots of pressure to the government. To protect themselves from the pressure, the government needs to focus more on the immediate issues. On the other hand, since immediate problems are bound with lots of people’s welfare, once solved, the government will gain a reputation of efficiency and usefulness, which will strengthen people’s confidence and faith in their government. That confidence from the people will pave the path for the government to put force into the anticipated problems in the future. For example, Chairman Xi of China was famous for his achievement in the anti-corruption movement. Then he started taking measures to work on a more long-term problem, environmental pollution. Now, the slogan of “Lucid waters and lush mountains are invaluable assets” are all over the streets in China and many large enterprises started to really evaluate the environmental pollution as part of their responsibility out of pressure.
For the other side, immediate problems and anticipated problems in the future may be twisted together under the surface, therefore, if the government managed to fix the immediate problem, the anticipated problems may not exist anymore in the future. For example, environmental problems are more immediate compared to space exploration. The government is sending people to the Moon and Mars to look for replaceable energy resource or living space. However, if we can establish a more eco-friendly and energy-saving living system, we may not need to find alternative living space or new energy outside earth. Complex problems may be twisted together so the nod will be untangled after one of them is cut.  
Complicated problems are emerging everyday and with limited resources, the government need to make a choice. To conclude, I believe the government should focus more on and put more forces into the immediate problems instead of the anticipated or long-termed problems in the future.
