Hello, everyone!
I would like to share with you my experiences to try to use English.
In my opinion the best way to improve English is practicing.(in fact, everyone knows it deeply:) )
So I try every way to use my English. So I read English news on CNN or BBC etc. I try to access into chat room to meet some English speaker, but hardly any one would like to talk to me. They just make fun with native members. Once I said “hi” to an American people who just got into the room and luckily he responsed, but after I told him that I’m Chinese, he said ‘Are you coming here to practice your English?‘ and I said ‘yes ’, then he didn’t chat with me! I feel very disappointed. But I didn’t give up. I also installed ICQ, Yahoo! Messenger, MSN Messenger to try to find someone to talk, but all failed. I feel really exhausted, and finally have to give up.
Now I am spending time watching English-speaking TVs or movies. Sometimes I even ask myself why I as a Chinese person should act that humble way to study a just kind of language? You know that hurt me too much. I felt helpless. How I wish China will become the same strong as USA! Then every other people will try to talk to us thirsty, they rush to install QQ, and we don’t pay any attention to them! I believe that day will come. How do you feel everyone?

Fortunately you've made a wise decision to join us here in this forum.

Welcome!!

As to your trouble, I really think the language empirilism does exist in the world, but meanwhile, all we have to do is get to know this media of communication and make it serve for us. I hope this could help you feel better.

Come  on!  jincheker, Cheer  up!
U  r  extremely  welcomed  here!  And  we  are  all  very  happy  to  be  ur  new  friends!
^ _ ^

After  ur  refreashment,  perhaps  we  Chinese  need  another  kind  of  selfquestion:  Are  we  a  little  bit  more  sensitive  about   our  yellow  skin  and  Chinese  nationality ?  Perhaps  that  American  guy  didn't  mean  to  hurt  u  at  that  time,  he  just  wanted  a  girl  chater ,  or  perhaps  he  thought  being   foreigner's  English  helpmeet  means  being  taken  advantage  from ?  .... Nobody  is  as  perfact  as  an  angle.  We  Chinese  emphasis  a  great  lot  about  hospitality,  friendlship  and  earnest  help , which   we  have  already  been  got  used  to.  Even  sometiomes  we  don't  really  want  to  obey  at  that  occation,  we  do  have  to  control  ourselves  and  pretend  to  be !  Perhaps  this  is  so  called  OLD  ROGUERY ?  Anyway,  things  would  be  much  more  different  in  the  western  countries  whose  people  are believing  absolute  individuality.  Nobody  could  force  them  to  do  anything  they  don't  like.  If  they  have  a  different  iopinion,  sorry,   they  would  not  be  hesitate  to  alter  it  out,  not  caring  the  listener's  face  or  dignity  or  anything  else,  'cause  they  regard  everybody  is  equal,   therefore  everyone  has  the  born  right  to  choose  things  or  living  manners  by  his  willingness , correspondingly,  everyone  has  the  duty  to  listen  to  or  respect  the  other's  choice.  That's  natual  and  equal  for  the  two  parties.  Perhaps  that  American  guy's  behaviour  only  conveyed  his  own  unwillingness  to  practise  English  with  u,  'cause  he  didn't  say  any  rude  words  against  u  or  our  country  after  that?   Misunderstanding  usually  comes  from  culture  differences  and   its  relevant  inadaptation.  As  we  are  from  the  different  culture  background,  can't  we  use  a  more  gracious  and  magnanimous  Chinese  smile  to  excuse  him?
I  wish  u  a  pleasant  mood  everyday!

aring, good argument. I agree with you.

i used to go to the chatrooms on MSN or Yahoo Msn trying to practise my english sometimes as you did. usually I could find someone to talk with fat more than half an hour. I told them I was in China, but nobody asked me that question.

And I think you shouldn't chat for its own sake, or practice for its own sake. Find some interesting topics to start with. You will find somebody. People like to talk about something and have fun, otherwise, no chatting can last longer than three words.

And come here often, you will have a lot of friends to talk to.

Mmmm~~~~
OK,  gdhdanny,  I  am  now  thinking  of  being  a  teacher~~~
^ _ ^
Actually,  I  am  not  an  active  speaker  in  the  real  life.
I'd  rather  prefer  listening,  writing  to  speaking~~Quite  different,  rite?

Roger that...

I believe to express urself in public is also a kind of demonstration of ur couragement and self-reliance. Even though sometimes people take women speaker as butch, the ability to talk publicly is still a valuable skill.

My  keeping  silence  partly  because  of  my  initial   charactor,  but  largly  because  I  don't  want  to  be  that  focus,  u  no~~
Behind   the  weak  and   soft   appearence,  I   have  a   too  crazy  and   even   wild  heart,   full  of  imaginations,  mericles  or  anything  unpractical   with  who  knows  what.....  Sometimes   they   bring   me   insperations,  things  sounds   good   like   that,  rite?  However,   as   to   the  most  occations,  they  are  my  biggest   headache.  People  around   me   would   ninty   percently  feel  unbeliveable  and  extremely  astonished   about  that!   That  make  me  feel  uncomfortable,  just  like  being  chocked  and  breathless...
Therefore,  if  not  necessarily  needed,  I'd  rather  hide  myself   in  a   cozy  and  private  world  of   my  own  and  behave  "normally".

Definately in China cause we speak Chinese.
Actually I had never spoke English here in our country
never go to the English corner
Using a language affluently requires an enviornment
I think it is hard to practise English especially in my town
It bothers me for a long time....

re: speakin english in china

i guess that depends. Yeah, the majority of chinese people speak chinese, but there r many English speaking people in china too. You just need to pick them out!:  ) Don't know bout your personality. Well, if you're not too shy and self-conscious, it's not gonna be too hard for u to talk to those people actually. It really makes a difference when you actually talk to them. Books can never teach you how to talk... You gotta meet and interact with people!!

I  can't  agree  with  u  any  more, upper ~
^ _ ^
That's  really  the  most  efficient  way  to  practise  oral  English  in  China!
I  do  have  some  foreign  friends,
And  their  language's  far  more  different  from  what  we  have  learnt  from  the  lifeless  text  books.
