90.College students should be encouraged to pursue subjects that interest them rather than seek programs that promise entry into the job market.



Education in college plays a significant role in an individual’s life. Therefore, how to culture the college student most properly is raised up as a controversial issue which appeals many people’s attention. Some said that students should be encouraged to pursue what they are interested rather than courses that prepare them for the job market. Others just held the opposite opinion. Nevertheless, I think while it is true that seeking subjects of the student’s interests will better inspire his talents, it does not entail that we should shift the focus away from the courses which promise entry into the job market.

Practice courses train the students in abilities of dealing with all kinds of problems in an effective way and instill the students with the sense of competition, which are  both essential in modern society. One of the major mission of education  is to equip students with information changing with the social development and prepare them well for the society with more and more classification of professions. Without practice skills or useful knowledge, it is unimaginable that how he can stand on the society. The fittest survives. The natural principle now is also most suitable for our society. Almost no one can live comfortably without working, whether mentally or physically. The college shoulders the responsibility to foster as much as possible competent talents for the society, it has no other way but to inform students of its significance and encourage students to pursue all kinds of practice courses.

As for courses which the students really interested in, maybe there is no necessity for colleges to make great effort on encouragement. What the college should do is just to provide such courses to best satisfy the students’ need, since interest is the most powerful drive for students to take those courses.

As the saying goes that interest is the best guidance in your study. It cannot be denied that interest can make a person conquer difficulties efficiently and recover         quickly from frustration and persist in his aim with few complains. In fact, a lot of glories achievements are accomplished by those who devote themselves with great interest to their career, such as Newton’s great contribution in both mathematics and physics and Liang Tian’s success of diving. Therefore, the ideal way to address the conflicts t is to combine one’s interest with one’s major for career, which enables us survive in the society replete with intense competition as well as enjoy the process of making a living. However, it still needs persevering endeavors from college teachers in making the students take the practices course out of real interest instead of occupation pressure.

In conclusion, when we focus on the importance of interest for a students’ growth, practice skills which enable the students adapt to and survive in the society cannot be ignored.
