2.尽管对未来的职业发展要求相关知识背景,但是一些其他领域所给我们的思考方式和知识同样也会让学生们在自己从事的行业中获益。
3.总结,工作至上的课程安排是短见的,不利于学生发展。
Some people have the opinion that the college should assign the curriculums for jobs rather than require the students to take courses in diverse disciplines. However, as far as I am concerned the statement of the issue is not reasonable because it not only neglects the ultimate purpose of the education, but as well misleads the students’ realization concerning the background of the jobs in their chosen field.
The assertion violates the important purpose of the education, that is, to form the general educated citizens, who are capable of creating opinions, and making decisions that could better for our nation. As we all know, the function of the education is to enhance the natural development of the students rather than pour information. However, the notion is near sighted that only views the schools as a place to replace the students empty brains with the information in their relevant fields determined by their future jobs. The ultimate purpose of the education is to create the well-rounded and enlightened citizens, basing on this, the college and universities should seek to bring its subjects to the perfection of their moral, intellectual and physical nature, by which the students’ ideas could become more well-rounded, and their feeling of the citizenship could be awakened.
Due to the purpose of the education, it is not difficult to understand why students majoring in physic science have to take the humanity education programs. To them, the history is not a mere of recital facts, memorizing of which could increase their credits in the final exam, but a study of the life and growth of the nations, through which the students could follow the general moral, intellectual, and economic development. And the study of that like could also bring about students’ realization that they should be responsible for the trend of thought and the actions of their times.
Undeniably, the successful career of the graduates also proves the efficient of the education, and such kind of success is one aspect of the education purpose. To get a satisfactory job and to attain the achievement in a certain level need the solid background in their chosen fields, but it never means that developing in one field only requires the knowledge and the information in the relevant field, those in other fields is useless. Actually, the courses in varied disciplines train the thought patterns of the students and enhance their ability to understand and analyze a difficult situation. The mathematics is compulsory for many majors in colleges. A few of students regard this course is tough but not conducive for their future jobs. To be honesty, the graduates would rarely be asked to give an answer to a complicated equation in a job interview or in a project they are undertaking. However, in mathematics what real needed by the students and by the future careers are the power of concentration and accuracy, and the ability of logical thinking. In addition, with the development of the society, more and more jobs need the people with the interdisciplinary background. For example, the sales manage in a software company, should possess the information of the computer science, the knowledge of the marketing, and the common sense of the psychology might be helpful as well.
To sum up, although there is an increasingly work-oriented trend in our society, the colleges and the universities as the educational institutions can never be lost in such trend. The assignment of the curriculums should be on the basis of the purpose of the education, that is, to form the enlightened and competent citizens. To require the students only enroll the course relevant in their chosen fields is nearsighted, which would do great harm to the growth of the students and influence their performance and the development in their future careers. |
