Issue114: “Humanity has made little real progress over the past century or so. Technological innovations have taken place, but the overall condition of humanity is no better. War, violence, and poverty are still with us. Technology cannot change the condition of humanity.”

In the past few centuries, great breakthroughs have taken place in science and technology fields and the overall condition of humanity changed enormously as a result. Though there are many serious problems remained unsolved, the merits of technology outweigh its negative facets obviously and its benefits should not be neglected or even denied.

Apparently, the overall condition of humanity has changed dramatically and people’s life style transformed greatly in the past centuries. Improvements of chemistry made it possible for women to keep young appearances and then satisfy their beauty needs. The innovation of telephone make it possible for distant people communicate with each other instantly, and then satisfy their feeling needs or realistic needs such as dealing business quickly and productively. Internet knit the whole world as a small village, through which people can hold visual meeting, sharing resource and exchange ideas conveniently. The great merits of technology are impossible to enumerate completely. People’s life quality and living condition are promoted by technologies undoubtedly. People’s dependence on technologies is even increasing day by day.

Someone asserts that technology cannot change or do well to humanity based on the observation that war, violence, and poverty are still with us. However, he or she fails to capture the essence of the phenomena that such problems are not produced by technology itself, but by people’s abuses of technology. Admittedly, technologies did not solve all problems such as war, violence, poverty, and etc. or even may deteriorate such problems. The uses of advanced weapons in war make the war fiercer. The atom bomb makes it possible to ruin a big city within a few minutes. The developed media make it easy for teens to touch and imitate the scenes of violence and then create many social problems. However, fiercer war is not produced by technology completely. An unlighted atom bomb can never explode and kill one person, let alone to ruin a big city. Biological technology can be both used to protect plants, animals and consequently protect our environments and used to invent bio-chemical weapons to deprive people’s life in war. Developed media can enrich people’s life and develop shared values that underpin the social cohesion. What’s more,the negative affects it may bring out can be prohibited by reasonable regulations. In one word, whether technology is good or bad to humanity is determined by the means people use it.

Furthermore, measures for solving those serious problems such as war, violence and poverty depend on and lie in development of technology largely. Of course, when it comes to these problems, regulation and education are vital effective and available means. However, some technological problems contained in these issues can only be resolved by technology itself. For example, the diffusion of nuclear may be refrained by the public critical voice. However, to totally prohibit the diffusion, the most effective measure may lies in the advanced detective technology and nuclear ruining technology.   

To conclude, the key for solving the technology related serious problems is not to abandon technology itself or inhibit its development, but to establish sound laws to regulate people’s use of technology and to develop perfect education system to cultivate a better moral and ethical environment.

只是觉得Body2 开头有几处表达有点儿罗嗦，重复。
是不是有点儿鸡蛋里挑骨头的嫌疑？

body 2写的很好， 例举了很多事实来证明technology改变了人类生活条件

body 3主要是说 即便世界上有war, violence and poverty, 也是由于人类自身使用technology不当造成的， 稍微长了， 如果能body 4多说点就好了

body 4 讲述technology的重要性， ......


我对此论题有个问题 ：
"the condition of humanity"
condition：   情境状态或状况  健康健康的状态
the condition of humanity 是人类生活的环境条件？还是人性的状态？
