While I wholeheartedly agree with the first claim, the conclusion unfairly generalizes the function of the history.

Turning first to the speaker's threshold claim, it's obviously that present life is new and complex with the development of science and technology. The advanced medical knowledge brings us a longer and more health life as well as the problem that whether it's legitimate to apply Clone technology in human body The transaction become more convenient for the popularity of network system, but at the same time we have to watch out for the computer crime. More fresh food has been provided by refrigerator along with the hole in the ozone layer of our atmosphere. Life, as we can see, is different from the past.

As for the speaker's ultimate claim, I concede that the study of history cannot provide direct solution to some present problems. Consider the problem of Clone technology mentioned above for example, which is a significant progress in the biology field. However, when it comes to human body, the problem is no longer simple, which giving rise to a controversial discussion related to what is the real human being and whether a man is still a man with some organs substituted by the clone ones. In the first place, the experience and knowledge accumulated by our forefathers can help people to recognize and deal with the present problems. For example, from the ancient Chinese author Sun Tzu 'book" The Art of War", many business leader in today' competitive environment gather valuable information that allow them to operate their company more efficiency and effectively and to make provident decision at every critical moment, which lead to a success of business.

In the second place, we can learn to avoid repeating mistakes made by our predecessor from the history. Looking back the past to see the various effect of various human behaviors on the environment can show valuable lesson on what can happen if proper precaution are not taken. The oil spills have been studied to ensure that do not happen again to pollute the sea. The study of the disinter grating of the ozone layer over the poles of the earth has given birth to new law and legislation on certain chemicals that help to preserve the valuable part of our atmosphere. The study of the acid rain and their effect on the environment gives similar guidance on how to avoid or at least minimize the damage to the environment. All of these examples of studying the past provide valuable guidance for present life.

To sum up, although changes in every field of society are taking place, which make our present life new and complex, the understanding of the past can sometimes provide useful knowledge to work out the solution of the preset problem and prevent the same misfortune happen again.
