I concede that it has some merits for the faculty to take a job outside the academic world for the sake of tutoring students more effectively to some degree though, this measure is not always helpful.

Admittedly, in the information age, knowledge is updated so rapidly that simply sticking to the books without participation in the practical world will absolutely stay behind the time and suffocate the creativity. On the contrary, working outside the college, so-called ivory tower, gives faculty fresher air and spark their inspirations, which would in turn be reflected in their instruction to the students. And the professors could offer students the personal experiences and feelings during working practice so that students will avoid making similar mistakes when they begin their professional careers. Undoubtedly, what the faculty have learned and tasted from the failure and success are more instructive and vivid than the boring and impractical vocational guidance. In addition, general principles and theories coming from books must be brought to the test of real life. Only the knowledge that could stand practice is significant enough to be taught to students. Accordingly, in order to improve the effect of the instruction, the professors should take the responsibility to apply and test those theories in their practical work.

While it is true that the involvement of related professions in the outside world will do some good, the contribution of the move, as a matter of fact, is merely constrained to certain fields, especially those social studies. To other fields like science, literature and philosophy, there is no such evident relevance with the outside world. Complete focus on the academic research is more helpful. Kant is a good case in point to demonstrate the contact with outside world is foreign to one's research. As the founder of Kantism, this philosopher has never go out of his hometown, not to mention attaching himself to the work outside his academic world, but he is considered as a good professor by his students and the greatest ideologist of the world. Some of his philosophy like the treatise on everlasting peace is meaningful and instructive even today. Similar case in scientific field is Einstein, a famous scientist and a member of faculty of Berlin University, who also prefers being indulged in his research field to being involved in the mundane affairs. Thereby, the requirement that faculty should take part in working practice beyond the theoretical world should be taken according to different fields.

Moreover, the counterproductive aspects should be taken into consideration before further action.
Firstly, faculty’s excessive participation in the extracurricular work would occupy too much time and energy to do well in teaching. We can imagine that if a Business School professor, who have a part-time job in a company, is devoted to the endless meetings and analysis of financial statements, how could he/she get round to direct the students or correct their homework? Secondly, the material temptations from the work in outside world may give rise to job-hopping of some excellent teachers, which consequently play down the quality of instruction.

To sum up, due to the reasons I have come up with above, instead of indistinctive requirement to entire members of the faculty that all of them should take a job outside the academic world, specific request based on corresponding disciplines seems more applicable to improve the goodness of teaching. In addition, professors who take part-time jobs should try their best to find a balanced point between the instruction and the work outside the academic world.

当然哲学是没问题了。但我觉得在science里边，可以分开来看。一方面，纯理论研究需要全身心的投入。但应用性较强的学科，像应用数学什么的，虽然仍然隶属于理科，但似乎对于实践的联系也相当重要

整个逻辑好似有点问题，首先，你先承认了一些学科的老师可以在校外任职，然后说一些学科的不需要，再说如果任职过渡怎么怎么样。这里貌似有个跳跃，倒不如按照2－1－3，或是1－3－2的顺序重新组织一下段落

谢拍先~我是这样想的,因为是支持,所以就先写好处,然后再一步步过度到有保留的地方,B2主要是讲应该分学科,B3就是讲课外兼职的缺点,所以应该在课堂教学和课外实践两者之间找平衡.
不过你的分析还是很有道理的,好多地方我都没考虑到,估计你这个题目八成跟我观点相反吧?呵呵~看来得多补充点资料了, 霍金我就不太了解的说.
