As the art to balance various benefits of different existing groups, the politics maintains the stability of the society, which demands the politics accordant with common ground and reasonable consensus. However, the role of ideal in the political activities should not be ignored in history, present even future. Otherwise, politics will be bogged down in confusion about where it should go.
Obviously, the common ground and reasonable consensus should be concerned to a great extent. It is the basis of the society as well as the meaning for its existence. Regime, which is the symbol of the politics, comes from partial sacrifice of the public’s rights. As Rousseau, an outstanding philosopher once illustrated in the "Social Contract", the public give the rights out to a form of organization in order to eliminate conflictions and collisions and raise the life level higher. They sign a contract with the organization, which is government, legislature or president today. Thus any policy or strategy that is constituted by these organizations should gain the confirmation of the common. Otherwise, the power is in threats even might be pushed over.
However, ideal and the common are not mutually exclusive. Ideal is the source of the power to pave the road of politics for running wheels of the society. The human need reasonable ideal to pursuit the truth, goodness and beauty, which are recognized by all persons despite the difference in religion, skin and nationality. In the process to quest for them, we have made a great stride by stride. Looking back into the history, thanks for the ideal of freedom, which was brought by Mahatma Ganhdi, the India got rid of the colonial govern reign of the Great Britain by whole citizens’ endeavor. Not only for the individual but also for the whole nation, as long as it never give up the ideal, it is promising and never be beaten down by obstacles.
Moreover, the ideal lights the way. Future is unknown while ideal is Polaris in such darkness. The common sometimes commit the blindness as well as focus on the short-time benefits. Even if their idea is harmless to society, we prefer to choose some long-time program for greater profits. It is guided by no one but ideal. Hence, aiming for the ideal, the organization in power produces policies and strategies efficiently. In United States, In the United States, the supreme ideal is freedom and equality and justice. Thus, the constitution of all policies and strategies should not betray the ideal. Owing to the definitive aim, each individual has the free space to realize their dream. Additionally, idea also links the common to the nation. They are consolidated together to congregate all force on one point. Without the ideal, they seem as a pile of sand.
Last but not least, the ideal is certainly in harmony with the common ground and reasonable consensus. As Bill Moyers once said, “Ideas are great arrows, but there has to be a bow. And politics is the bow of idealism.” Otherwise, impractical ideal is a castle in the air and engender adversities. It was Saddam's "Arabian Empire", for example, that push the public into the abyss.
Once a masterpiece showed, which impressed me deeply, a bright three-color flag is held by a woman, whom the common are willing to follow. Without the common, a flag of ideal means nothing in the war field. Without the flag of ideal, the common suffer for being lost in the war. Like the painting's name-" Liberity leading the people", this is the goal of politics- to pursuit the reasonable ideal which the common intend to follow.
(((yeah!!被我找到了,是三色旗哦 Eugene Delacroix 的作品:)谢谢猪) |
