题目
201 The purpose of education should be to provide students with a value system, a standard, a set of ideas— not to prepare them for a specific job.
正文
Should education be a process of personal growth and general mental as well as intellectual development, or should education be an opportunity to prepare for one’s special skill for work? The speaker in the title statement advocates the former. At the first glance, this seems quite appealing since education in aim of the only latter is obviously more unsatisfactory. But further reflection tells us this opinion goes from one extreme to the other. In my point of view, these two sides are not mutually exclusive; it is educators’ responsibility both to foster general improvement over values and ideas and to teach knowledge in professional specialization, with proportion carefully worked out.

At first, I will point out that the main and ultimate purpose of education is to teach students knowledge and technology and thus prepare them the ability to deal with problems in their future lives. It is universally acknowledged that a man who can make great contribution to the society is one who is firstly an expert in his own field, who masters the knowledge very well and thus can using it to do some initiative works. Today, modern civilization is based on the accumulation of knowledge. Without any special knowledge in a special professional field, one cannot expect a good job, as it were, even can not find a foothold in a society. So important is knowledge that educators can’t weasel from their duty to teach students knowledge and technology only leaving it to employers to provide professional training our work force needs to perform our jobs. More important, an ideal educational system is based on the conception not only instill something to students, but teach them learn to learning, learn to critical thinking. Once a great man said, “To give him fish is no better than to teach him how to fish”, which means that the teachers should foremost bring up the abilities of students to study. Of course, such abilities are based on learning and mastering certain amount of knowledge.

However, the cultivation of value ideas is also an important and necessary part of education. The days as students are the time of the formation of youngsters’ beliefs and values. The only knowledge in professional field does not tell us which goals are worthwhile and whether the means of attaining those goals are acceptable. A child is a white paper at first, they don’t know what is right and what is wrong; they develop their world views and values during the period of education. Educators should lead them to form right value systems and standards, neither should they ignore this obligation nor should they just impose their values to the students. It pays to do this so that students have their strong values and ethical standards well developed to determine how they can best put their knowledge to the use in their future work.

At last, we must emphasize that the proportion of the two aims of education should be well planned. Limited as the time of education for a certain individual is that overemphasis of either would result in underemphasis of the other. A good educational system is to foster enlightened young people with all aspects balanced-developed and such can’t neglect any of them. It is true that today more and more parents and teachers concentrate on the prospect of finding job, paying more and more attention to the skills leading to good jobs in the process of education. This is to say that educational system in China leaves much to be desired, educators should devote themselves more to teach them to be a full-developed person, then a qualified worker. But this does not mean the teaching of value systems, standards and ideas should overwhelm the study of professional knowledge. The best way is teach them values in the process of learning professional skills.

From what has been discussed above, we may safely draw the conclusion that education should be equally devoted to teaching them values to form a good personality as well as teaching them knowledge to be a qualified worker.

楼主这篇作文结构挺清晰的,分析也很有条理。在语言上,句式变化也很多,不过用词少了点变化。
新手,评的不好,还望见谅
