------题目------
It is often asserted that the purpose of education is to free the mind and the spirit. In reality, however, formal education tends to restrain our minds and spirits rather than set them free.
------正文------
In public opinion, the purpose of education is to free people' mind and spirit. However, in fact, formal education goes to the opposite way, in which it tends to restrain our minds and spirits instead of making them free.
First of all, formal education usually provides orthodox to students作为ts,这句话没说完,orthodox的影响说出来.. Through the process of formal education, students always just receive what the teachers instruct without any doubts. In reality, teachers do not encourage students to have any doubts about their textbooks. In this case, students assume all the textbooks are correct and accept them all. However, a famous educator once said "a good student should ask and a good teacher should ask for". Everybody may have mistakes even the genius may mistake sometimes. Moreover, formal education put too much emphasis on the scores. Students work hard not because they like the subjects but they only want to have high scores, which may make them just memorize all the keys without understanding the actual meanings. Therefore, formal education should be a process of doubting and believing.论证的重点要体现在orhtodox为什么会restrain,而不是说应该怎么样.
Furthermore, the most important function of formal education is to develop the personality of the individuals. ts要明确表明传统教育忽视这一点不然,你这一段通通都要证明教育最重要的功能是什么了.Students go to school, not just learn a variety of knowledge but learn to behave themselves. However, formal education emphasizes a lot on competition. For example, usually the best students receive the highest honors and the most applauds. In Oxford, only a few best students can get the honorable degrees. In this case, students make every effort to gain straight A. If a student fails to write down all the notes in class and ask for other's notes, sometimes, the other students refuse to lend their notes to him. Because they are afraid that he may surpass them one day and compete with them for the honorable degrees. Competition makes students selfish and not willing to help others. In this case, formal education fails to develop good merits for students but have bad influences on them. Thus, formal education makes little contribution to free our minds but restrain our minds.
Finally, formal education fails to cultivate the spirit of creativity for us. Every student receives the same education and follows the same rule. In fact, formal education provides different subjects on the basic theory, but offer few subjects according to the students' interests. Interests, to some extent, may encourage students to have creative ability. For instance, Stephen Hawking has been interested in astronomy since he was in high school. And he spent much time on his interests and has made much contribution to the realm of astronomy by explaining the original of the universal. Hawking's experience concludes that interests may stimulate the sense of creativity. Nevertheless, formal education strongly stresses on the scores and keys without considering the importance of students' interests. It is likely that some students have some particular interests and they may achieve in their field through proper instruction. If formal education lay no emphasis on their interests the society may suffer loss from it. Hence, formal education ignores to cultivate different spirits and abilities for students. creativity和题目说的restrain our spirits有什么关系?
To sum up, formal education emphasizes too much on the orthodox and fails to devote to the development of personalities and cultivation of abilities for us. In reality, it tends to restrain our minds and spirits.
