Cultural traditions are significant for a country in that they are somewhat the symbol of the nation. But here there is another problem related with them, that is where are their preserved and generated, the major cities or the countryside and the towns. As far as I concerned, both the big cities and the countryside are important to preserved traditions.

Many old cities do persist a nation'cultural traditions, especially the material ones. They used to be the nation' capital or the major cities for a long period time, so they always acted as the economic and culture center of their country, as a result lots of traditions were generated there and are kept now. Take Beijing as an example, it has been being china'capital since almost 1000 years ago. There are lots of old building still standing there now, such as Great Wall, Forbidden City, Summary Palace and so forth, which represent the material traditions of China. At the same time, as the culture center of China for so long a time, many traditions in mental such as Beijing Opera are also kept there. In short, in order to protect its cultural traditions, a nation should not omit the old cities.

Admittedly, not all the major cities are bound to the responsibility of preserving a nation' cultural traditions. Indeed, some new-developing cities, which have less cultural traditions, are just the result of the industrialization and globalization. They make an important role in the country' development and progress, not the persistence of the traditions. Shanghai, the biggest city of China, which used to be a small village, is a typical example. With the process of globalization, lost of foreigners come there, they bring their own life styles and customs. As a consequence, the Chinese traditions fade with the interaction of different cultures. Walking in the street of Shanghai, you can find any significant different difference from the other word- famous cities.

However, due to the impact of globalization and industrialization, the cities of the word are being homogenized, even the old ones, as a consequence, the rural areas which have less influence of the outside also plays a important part in the preserve of a nations' cultural traditions both in material and mental. For in the relative closed environment, countryside people tend to live in a peaceful life and keep the traditions. So many mental traditions such as old customs and thoughts are preserved and only can been seen in the countryside, especially the place where the economic are not in high levels. Besides, as their low economic standard, many old material traditions, saying the traditional clothes, old houses have not been replaced by the new ones. In a word, the rural areas' roles in persisting the cultural, if no more than, are as substantial as the old cities.

To sum up, both the major cities and the other areas of the countries are significant in the persistence of a nation' s cultural traditions, they both need the governments' attention and financial support to make cultural traditions thrive.

先质疑一下,culture traditions 的定义,古建筑算不算?我个人认为建筑风格和建筑中蕴涵的意义才是culture traditions(个人意见)
文中论证有个假定是说大城市的基础要比小地方要好,有更多的culture traditions,这个观点值得商榷，好像埃及金字塔就不是在大城市？？？
就是感觉关于大城市的论述不够踏实,给人的感觉是国家要支持的不是大城市,而是有古迹有古文化的地方，那为什么文章不把观点改为要重视的那些文化传统好的小地方呢???
