As I deem, it is true that a nation should provide national curriculum, which common schools should accept and follow, to all its students before they enter college. However, there are still some special high schools which should be given full right to decide its academic courses. In addition, a nation should also be flexible to give local schools certain right to add some courses to that national core curriculum.

During school education, we learn not only knowledge and skills, but also values and virtues. One important reason of requiring national curriculum in primary schools lies in the fact that we begin to form our own value system when we are just kids.
A same core value system is crucial for citizens, despite color, race or gender, to unite as a whole. And only when all people as a whole love the nation, cherish the nation can a country prosper. Love for the motherland, respect for the old, a spirit of never give up, diligence creativeness and much more, all such virtues a nation values can be reflected in national curriculum, hence pupils who follow the same national curriculum will be imbued with identical core value system. Furthermore, on a national level, only can national curriculum definitely fulfill the request regardless of local variances. For a nation should not risk leaving the future citizens expose to different value system containing in different local curriculum.

Furthermore, there is another advantage of national curriculum. Student being give the same curriculum will be made sure to maintain at the same level at the same age. Thus the probability that owing to local limitation, some students are taught at a lower level is eliminated. It is possible that when leaving to them, poorer regions cannot work out an efficient or systematic curriculum therefore the learning progress of their kids is hindered. The nation has the duty to ensure all its younger generation is taught equally to encourage a circumstance of fair competition, as well as not to desert the talent of the students in poorer regions. For this sake, a compulsory core curriculum should be established.

However, as mentioned above, there is a special kind of high school that needs particular consideration—the art school. Children fond of art and have certain talents may determine to pursue an art life at early age. Nonetheless, to cope with daily life as well as to be a sophisticated, well-rounded person as judge by today’s value, they still need common education before they enter high schools. In other words, the existence of art high schools is warranted and well-reasoned. Common sense tells us art lessons are very different from ordinary courses thus an art curriculum is far beyond common educators’ reach. So it will be wise, and necessary for a nation to give art highs full right to design their courses given.

Taken into account the specific conditions of different regions and individual students, I will argue that beside compulsory national curriculum, a nation should also allow an additional curriculum planned by local educators. To encourage active learning, courses fit individual’s interests will make sense. However, since students’ interests vary a lot from individual to individual, moreover, when considering the particular conditions of every school, it is not practical for a nation to design this kind of lessons as well as include them in a national compulsory curriculum. Secondly, different part of the country may have different culture, especially true for a multiracial nation, which only local educators are familiar with. For the purpose to pass on the precious locally culture, an additional curriculum is needed. Hence come forth the need for a nation to grant local schools to provide additional courses, so as to make the same national curriculum more flexible, student-oriented and compatible.

Therefore, to imbue the students with national value system and to ensure all the younger generation is taught equally, a nationwide compulsory curriculum is needed. On the other hand, a nation should give local schools certain right to determine additional courses, as long as these courses are designed to hearten students’ learning desire, or to serve as a means of maintaining local culture.

我是觉得对于一个国家来说,在年轻一代的初期教育中最重要的就是灌输正确的价值观和爱国的精神,说得不好听点就是基于国家的价值理念对大家"洗脑",这样国内才会团结,大家才会一致对外嘛.
就算像米国那么强调个人主义的地方,国民整体也都持有共同的价值观,进而表现为国家在国际社会中呈现出来的价值理念.
