Great people is significant for us in that they can make great contribution to out society, everyone admits this, but here there is another problem related with it, that is how to judge them, whether by the contemporaries or by those who live after them. As far as I concerned, we should decide the greatness of individuals based on the opinions of the offspring for that their judgments are more disinterested. Meanwhile we can not omit the importance of the views of the contemporaries.

Firstly, the descendants can realize the true values of the greatness of great people's contributions through the wide comparison and the test of the time. As we know, great theory and inventions are often put forward or invented by some genius, whose thoughts and ideas can not be easily understood and accepted by ordinary people, so their fruits are hard appreciated by them. When Einstein published his famous theory--the theory of relative, nobody believed him because its abstruseness is far beyond the knowledge limit of other scientists, let alone ordinary people. With the development of science and its application in some fields, although most of us still can not understand it, it becomes widely accepted by the scientific circles and Einstein is regarded as the most gifted person in the world.

Beside, the contemporaries would not make equitable judge for the scruples and apprehension of unpredicted involvement, especially in the past time. During those periods, the church had the inviolable authority, while the theories of great people also conflicted with them, so they  exerted to stymie great theories' development and punished people who have the same views with those great people, under this condition, most decision were unfair. Famous naturalist Darwin' theory of evolution based on the natural selection is a good example. It obvious contradicted with the church' believes that the god created us, so they believed that he was profane, his theory was sentenced as heresy and he was persecuted for a long term. For the familiar reasons, Italy philosopher Bruno even was sentenced to death. At the same periods, Copernicus published theory that the sun other than the earth is the center of the universe which is converse with the church after his death for fear the persecution.

However, when the descendents play a main role in the process of the decision of greatness of individuals, the importance of the contemporaries' views can not be neglected. Admittedly, the descendants' judgment is fairer, but their judges have no little influence on the people
