How to decide the greatness of individuals? Someone holds the viewpoint that the greatness of individuals can be decided only by those who live after them not by their contemporaries, in my opinion, it is just refer to one aspect and the greatness of individuals can be decided not only by their offspring but also by their contemporaries.

Evaluating the greatness of individuals by those who live after them can attain the conclusion fairly and widely. The creation of the great theories and principles will usually suffer from criticism. In history of science, a new theory will inevitably contradict with the traditional theory and culture which are rooted in people's minds deeply, so contemporaries always give them a unfairly evaluation, however, with the development of science and technology, these theories gradually take effect and make great contributions for human, therefore their offspring can recognize the good result taken from the great creations, meanwhile, they can appreciate the greatness of individuals fairly, take the theory of relative for instance, almost every scientists were shocked when it was firstly created. Because of its abstruseness scientists consider it to be absurd and criticize Einstein of his crazy, Nowadays, we have to admit the research theory of outer space is based on the theory of relative, and Einstein is considered to be the greatest scientist by his offspring in the 20 century. Copernicus, who creates the theory that the earth and other planets   travels with the sun after thirty years of hardworking. The theory contradicts with the powerful church, so the church try many ways to persecute him and prevent his essay from publishing, however, his theory was accepted by the public after his death.

In another aspect, the contemporaries can also evaluate the greatness of the individuals each other, which is beneficial to the contemporaries and can encourage the individuals to work hard. For one thing, The Nobel Prize is the greatest honour in the research field not only for its great money but also for its great reputation, which is a reward and an appreciation to the contributions of the contemporaries. Evaluation of this kind is sometimes more useful than that of their offspring, for affirmation after their deaths only means a good reputation while the contemporaries' evaluation can enhance their enthusiasms and stimulate their abilities to do more for our society. for another thing, the evaluations from the contemporaries sometimes include good advice and suggestions, which can ameliorate their research ways and even correct some mistakes. That is more practical.

Actually speaking, when the values of the creations and activities are beneficial to the society the former will deserve great glory. The difference is that some of creations deserve appreciation when the people is alive while someone's activities are accepted after their death.

To sum up, the greatness of individuals should be decided fairly whoever the offspring or the contemporaries give, the evaluations from the offspring are widely and fairly, and the contemporaries' are timely and inspiring.
