我的第一篇issue,花了一个多小时写的,写完自己都没敢看,应该是巨烂,各位心情不好的就拿它出气吧!
issue176 "Technology creates more problems than it solves, and may threaten or damage the quality of life."
Again,注意发贴格式
The speaker asserts that technology brings about more problems to our life than it already solved. While I concede that high-tech creates some problems that are even more serious than ever before, however, I do not agree with the speaker's claim for the reason that technology in fact turn our world into a comfortable place to live in and it eliminates more problems than it creates.
I turn first to my chief point of contention with the statement. With the rapid development of modern technology the human race has conquered a myriad of problems that can not be solved before. Modern transportation is a good case in point. In the ancient era of the human history people depend on their feet or other inefficient vehicles traveling through the world, therefore, until 1942 we had known the American continent from the discovery of Columbus who took several years to fulfill this goal. Consider, now, the car, the train and even the airplane give us a better way to go through the world; we can fly from China to American--the distance is about half of the length of equator--within one day. In a large sense, the modern transportation creates a smaller world in which all the people live like a big family which in turn brings about more convenience.
Another aspect I disagree with the speaker is cases from the realm of communication. In the early days, when one needed a piece of important information, he or she must wait for a period of time before the received it and the waiting time also result from the weather or other natural conditions. For example, we often see from the movies that early people send messages using horses or pigeons. By contrast, today's instant communication is more efficient. Internet, telephone, and mobile cell make possible universal connect with any place of the world whether you are in the savanna of Africa or you are in your bathe room at home. In addition digital technology creates an avalanche of fresh moving image from the location of any seminal events; we can watch the exciting speed of Formula One as well as appreciate the winner touchdown at the Super Bowl. The technology developments give us a more beautiful world to reside in.
I turn next to my point of agreement with the statement. Although technology solves a lot of enduring problems, at the same time it indeed creates more problems that hard to subjugate. Few would dispute that atomic, biochemistry, and chemistry weapons threaten our life and the atomic blast murdered and maimed hundreds and thousands of innocence people. Moreover modern assembly-line manufacturing in industry produces several byproducts that pollute our river, destroy our forest and make a noisy circumstance around us. In addition television program steal our time away from family, community, and coworkers. All mentioned above are new problems produced by technology, which can not be eliminated at present and whether these problems can be solved depend largely on our proper awareness and attitude of new technology rather than on the technology itself.
To sum up, while technology in contemporary society creates some problems we never meet and that can not be easily solved, it does improve our living and comfortable standard and bring about a harmony world. Without technology we might not confront so many problems made by the development of computer science and industry. But without technology we human beings would not have achieved progress in so many fields such as transportation, communication, and so forth. |
