Humanity has made little real progress over the past century or so. Technological innovations have taken place, but the overall condition of humanity is no better. War, violence, and poverty are still with us. Technology cannot change the condition of humanity.

The speaker contends that humanity has made little real progress over the part century or so thus technology cannot change the condition of humanity, I concede that such as war and violence and poverty are still with us. Belong to this concession, however, I find the speaker's contention indefensible from both an empirical and a normative standpoint.

At first place, as we know, in last era of rapid social and technological change leading to increasing well-being of citizens and changing our environment of work. For example, in last century the quantity of agriculture has increased several times than before by using machines and genetic technology to survive increasing people. The revolution also has been found at other field such as industry, science, transportation and education. We can read of tings that happened a century ago in the near East, where people lived in the houses which were cold and wed in the winter and walked to factory. But nowadays we can take a car or bus to the factory and we live in the buildings which are very warm and comfortable in the winter. It is possible that the only way human being could get widely information is to read the books a country ago, but now we can get largely information by watching TV, listening radio and using the computer, these tools make the education is more efficient than before. Thus the condition of humanity have obviously improved.

At second place, the technology have a few negative affection for the society. Take the computer for example, we all know humanity work efficiently by using them, however, the computer also make many trouble for humanity. A haker can disarrange the system of the society by using a computer at home, he can take away the money which don't belong to him/her in the bank or  thieve the information of the company, all these will lead to confusion. Besides, genetic project will lead to many moral problem by cronning people. But if we think it from the macroscop of the history, we will fond that even if with the development of the technology many new bad phenomenon appeared, it also promote the society to thrive by increasing the producting ability of every field.

Finally, you may wonder, why are war and violence still with us? As far as I am concerned, almost all the war in the history were launched by the ambition of the country’s leader, and the main reasons for violence is that the bad essence of a few people who want to get benefit by doing nothing. With the reference to poverty, it is possible that the area who people lived effects the development of economy. Moreover, if the transportation of the area is not convenience, the area will poverty. Thus technology don’t lead to the war, violence and poverty instead promoting the development of the society.

To the sum,, the statement is not fundamentally correct. Technology contribute to the development of humanity by increasing the ability of the production and changing our conditions, thus we can say that technology have made the humanity be better than before.
