41(185). "Scandals whether in politics, academia, or other areas can be useful. They focus our
attention on problems in ways that no speaker or reformer ever could."

Scandals, a publicized incident that brings about disgrace or offends the moral sensibilities of society. Many people  consider that scandals are useful in calling public attention to address some  problems in ways that speakers and reformers could not. In my view, however, I tend to agree that scandals are general harmful and negative to our society.

It is true that scandals can serve to reveal some politics or society things that public should pay attention to and solve in time. A felicitous example is the Watergate scandal-President Nixon resigned from office for involving in the event of wiretapping to his politics opponents. Before the Watergate scandal, public often convinced a politics leader as a president is innocent in moral. But public realized that officials should be supervised by public medias to be apart from the illegal events  through this scandal. Another modern example is the Clinton-Gore fundraising scandal. In order to avoid officials influenced by the special-interest groups, Federal government reformed the campaign-finance rules. Certainly, there are on speakers and reformers have put forward these problems. These two scandals called public concentration on the important things, and brought some reforms to benefit our society.
However, scandals can distract us from more important things in most time. For example I have read a scandal on yesterday's news paper. A famous movie star was arrested
for using drugs. There are many scandals like that on newspapers. These scandals do not help to solve any problem nor have any positive influence to society. They destroyed
and distort  our society’s value system. These scandals, like movie stars drug scandles, brought more negative influence to our younger generation ,because they have little
capabilities to distinguish what is right. Parents and educators need or use great effort to counterattack these negative influence. If there are not scandals public can spend more time and heart in solving many significant problems, such as education, environment protecting, poverty, nd so on. These scandals should not occupy public's limited attention.

Moreover, since scandals have special functions in calling public attention, there is a tendency that some people manufacture  scandals for their own interest in our society. In politics, in order to win in the election those candidates make scandals to beat their opponents. In academia in order to attain more reputation the professor produce scandals to suppress their craft brothers. In economy, in order to gain more profit the merchants manufacture scandals to rout their competitors. These scandals mislead public to make the right selection, should be held back by all society.

in sum, I accept that scandals in some regions of our society can be useful by focusing our attention on problems in ways that no speaker or reformer ever could. but
I would like to insist on the view that scandals, a publicized incident that brings about disgrace or offends the moral sensibilities of society, are often considered as harmful and passive things of human society.
