No.1 issue185 重写了一遍!大家看看有没进步
185:
Scandals-whether in politics, academia, or other areas-can be useful.
They focus our attention on problems in ways that no speaker or reformer
ever could.
-----------------------------------
Can sandals be useful? If the word ‘useful’ is regarded as this: a tool accomplishes a function, so the tool is useful; and then, scandals are useful with no doubt. Because once there is a scandal, it will certainly gain people’s attention. Thus, the issue needs not does not needto be discussed anymore. Therefore, in order to prevent this circumstance above, it’s necessary to define ‘useful scandals’ as disgrace events which are beneficial to most people and our society. Under this definition, scandals can be divided into two groups— one is useful and the other is useless or even harmful. Hence, I agree with the assertion that scandals can be useful.总觉得这一段是不是有点绕来绕去的?
On the one hand, some scandals can be useful in some sense, especially on the area of economy, politics, sport, etc. Firstly, on the economy field, the examples of Enron scandal and WorldCom scandal are convincing in tosome extent. Enron, used to be considered as America’s most innovative company, has become bankruptcy for fraudulent accounting, so as WorldCom. The collapse of these largest and almost best-run companies brought a deep impact to American business. However, these scandals resulted in new legislation that reformed accounting practices and strengthened the ability of the Securities and Exchange Commission to investigate accounting fraud. The governments were becoming more responsible to the business financial reporting. Give the matter further thought, regarding to people and our society in the future, these scandals are useful. Secondly, considering the politics, Watergate scandal can not be ignored which brought down Richard Nixon. Taking a retrospect of this scandal, its aftermath are isworthy of mention[这句语法对吗].语法没什么问题吧 People paid more attention to politicians and how politics work. Politicians were more active in building our society in a good way and took care of themselves more scrupulously. And the level of scrutiny was increased and reliability administration was given more regards, thus the government was running more efficiently. Finally, simply speaking, the bid scandal of Olympic Committee in the sport area and the fake data results scandals of professors in academia area both reflect some crucial problems in our society. In a word, some scandals are useful for our lives.
On the other hand, there are also a large number of scandals that are of no use, especially on the entertainment circle. Nowadays, in order to gain people’s attention, news papers, televisions and broadcasts all try their best to look for scandals这句话太绝对了吧, even make up fake stories by themselves in all aspects of the world to cater to the readers, viewers or listeners’ curiosity. In the entertainment circle, actors and actresses always encounter these kinds of things. Love affairs, drug abuse, drinking too much and other personal lives among famous people are frequently going to be a cover story. These kinds of meaningless scandals appear on and on. Not only these persons entangled are going to have a hard time but people will have no time to read what the most critical problem for our country is读者不是没有时间去看一些重要的报道吧!而是更容易被一些八封新闻所吸引, how many people are still out of work and how many children are still out of school.
In sum, I agree that some scandals can be useful. They show some underlying problems needed to be solved in our society then promote our lives in a healthy way. Meanwhile, there exist a number of useless scandals which distract our attention from more important things. In judging whether a scandal is useful, it’s necessary to consider it’s beneficial to our society.
从正反两方面来谈,思路清晰,语句需要更精练些!
