An individual's greatness cannot be judged objectively by his or her contemporaries; the most objective evaluators of a person's greatness are people who belong to a later time.

Can the greatness of an individual be judged more objectively and reliably by descendants rather than people today? I fundamentally agree with the speaker that compared with contemporary judgment, the evaluation from later generations are more objective in most cases; however, I take the conservation that the absolute assumption of the speaker that contemporary judgment is of absolute prejudice and of no sense.

The reasons why usually the evaluation later is more of sense compared with that from today can be generalized into two aspects: the environmental factors and the man-related components. On the one hand, as the judgment and evaluation towards an individual is actually the reflection of a whole society and public, the outside surroundings could influence and guide the trends of the judgment. For example, if a nation needs to raise the patriotism of the mass when in the danger of invasion, the enthusiasm of a certain individual could be referred as the greatness; accordingly, the evaluations concerned about him/her should aim at awaking more people. Thus, exaggeration and "white lies" may exist in the process however out of the will to extricate the country. The contemporary people, to some extent, are blind to see the truth clearly due to the numerous influence from outside; yet the decedents, unrelated to the people and the social conditions, tend to more focus on their contributions and manners to draw a more objective conclusion about the greatness.

On the other hand, the people at that time with the individual being evaluated have weak points themselves to draw such an objective conclusion. For supporting examples, one need no further to look upon the admiration of Hitler in German under the rule of Nazism. Being educated in the concept that they are the best human race on the world, the youth in Germany hated the Jews and took Hitler as their "father to lead Germany into prosperity and everlasting greatness". It is well known that evaluation is ridiculous and totally wrong due to the heavy racial discrimination and intense will of violence and invasion. Yet the people in Germany at that time had lost their conscience and capability to distinguish what greatness really is and to what extent they actually is; let alone to evaluate their leader objectively. In all, the man-related components are of importance to explain that why people contemporary are hard to evaluate the greatness of individual correctly and truly.

Meanwhile, the decedents are free from this restriction and taboos to seek out the truth behind the history, thus to draw a comparatively objective judgment. People nowadays are not necessary to worry about the punishment from outside society when they have to penetrate into national secrets to dig the scandals about a national hero that nobody could deny him/her when he/she was alive. Also, it becomes reality that people could get a full vision about the whole environments of an individual, including not only the manners and contributions he had made, but also the outside environment, the reliability of the reports, and the social conditions. These factors all could benefit us to obtain a more objective judgment towards the contribution-- in other words, the "greatness" --of a specific individual historically.

However, it doesn't mean that contemporary judgment and evaluations are of no use or even of no sense. Judgment from profound understanding and careful investigation, although they may exist at the same time with the individuals, obviously reflects on the greatness of the people. No one can deny the greatness of Churchill, no matter at his time or in this century, after reading his stories and measurement taken by him in the Second World War. Therefore, to simply draw the conclusion that contemporary judgment is of no objectivity is too arbitrary.

To sum up, as far as I am concerned, to evaluate the greatness of a person should be based on the complete consideration of all factors and possible options, not simply when the conclusion is made. Generally speaking, the later evaluation is of more objectivity due to the reasons above; yet it never imply the total objection and denouncement of the contemporary comments.

我觉得这个观点出发点是好的：从被当代定义错误的伟人来论证观点，可以说是比较新颖， 但是这样的例子很难举，此段内把德国人和纳粹分子混淆起来，不大妥当，而且这个例子不是很恰当

从结尾段来看，感觉很怪，总是觉得你好象为了去“定义伟人”而工作似的，弄得很程序化。


总的来说基本上限时写出这么丰富的文章我很羡慕， 但是每个论点不明确， 有些词汇用法，如"of ...."来代表形容词用的太多，感觉累赘。没有很典型的例子，其实我觉得这个论题的例子应该很多的

我写的时候就觉得这篇文章非常的抽象不好写
而且一个不小心就容易写得非常的宽泛
我思考的时候已经尽量从小的地方着手

只考虑怎么样能够从一个why的方面讲清楚
我的思路是
把原因从外界的局限和人自身的束缚两个方面谈的
然后说后世的东西反倒就没有那么多局限
B1 B2 可以认为是并列的
然后一起推出B3
然后B4是让步

很明显我B3 B4的篇幅小了 也没什么例子 因为没时间了写的时候

而且我写的时候就发现段内部逻辑不好
但不知道怎么改正了

There is a constant tradition in China that the history of one dynasty should be written by those who lived in the next dynasty in order to make the record and the comments hidden in the words impartial and appropriate. We could find many reasons for this tradition as well as the greatness of individuals can be decided only by those who live after them, not by their contemporaries.

The outstanding talent and the transcendental intelligence of great men sometimes could not be accepted and understood by their contemporaries due to that their thinking and doing usually surpass the common cognition of general public and their peers. For general public, what they are not familiar with in the daily life and beyond their common sense might not only evoke their curiosity, but also usually make them fear and full of hostility. Socrates devoted all his time and even his life to the democracy and freedom of the citizens of Greece. As the response to his contribution, they gave him a chance to be put into the prison and poisoned to death. What Socrates said and what he did, although did nothing harmful to anybody, were thought deleterious to younger.

Even if the greatness of individuals would not be killed by misunderstanding and fear of their contemporaries, they usually could not be treated and appraised equally and impartially. However, Socrates has already been respected as one of the greatest master of philosophy. With the distance to the time when he lived, we are able to know everything of him and his period, and we can explore every aspect of him and his thoughts. His thoughts have been treated as the classic of the civilization of the western countries. We would never be fear of the change that Socrates would bring. That enables us to make a correct judgment.

Furthermore, the greatness of lots of great men could only be seen after a long time even centuries. When the theory of relativity of Elbert Einstein just appeared, there was so few people could understand it that almost no one treated it as a great theory which have changed the science and our daily life so tremendously. This great invention did not accepted correctly until an experiment proved it. Some seemed ridiculous decisions or doings would be highly praised after they really resulted in something wonderful. The Secretary of State was blamed so much when he decided to buy the land of Alaska from Russia at the beginning of 20th century. However, one century later, every citizen of USA thanks him for his decision although it seemed so stupid then. All the contemporaries of him could not see the future effect of this great idea; consequently they could not give him a right judgment.
In a democratic society, every one is free to tell his opinion. But not every one is able to understand the greatness of individuals. This task should be remained to those who live after them.
