“How did your teachers teach you that in your middle school?” many professors often say this sentence to their students in the university. But what is it meaning of that? It is just a signal that the different curricula in the middle school lead to the different effects on the students’ fundamental skills. In my opinion, the nation should give the united curricula to all the students in the society so as to achieve the united standard in the society and let them use the fundamental skills in the university better than before.

If there is no united curriculum, no united standard and no equity will exist. China is a case in point. The nation only makes the most fundamental curriculum in the middle school such as the Chinese, English and Mathematics. They also encourage many regions to determine other courses by their customs. On the other hand, the Education Bureau requires that it is very equality to use the united examinations between the senior middle schools and the universities. So there are strange ambivalences and confused situations in the society. The difference among the courses of many regions makes the different standard to class the levels of the students. All the universities have different scores, grades and standards in different region although there are some united examinations. So the essence of the education which seems that very equality does not represent the equity, which is evaluating the equalities standing by the courses and the conclusions.

The united curricula can develop the fundamental skills better than before. As all the people know, the education is a productive activity. It can make many effective and good outputs although there are many inputs into its production. And this utility to the society is positive and can lead to the society welfare maximization. But how will it do? And which way will it achieve the effective utility in? The way is the best way to develop the fundamental skills of the students through receiving the united course in the middle school. This is shown by the following examples that the education reform in Hong Kong. Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government wants to make the education reform about the curricula to meet the new challenges in the new era. The Education and Manpower Bureau thinks that much more curricula are not very appreciate for the students in the middle school and there will be some lacks of the fundamental skills of the students. So they are ready to give the general courses to all the schools in Hong Kong and acquiring the most agreements from all the people in Hong Kong. The advantages of the united curricula, which can provide much more opportunities for the high-studying, profess training and getting employment, increase the quality of the fundamental education and improve the development of adolescents, have been okayed by the society.

Many people will claim that the united curricula will press the creation of the students. But I don’t think so, nobody can create something without the fundamental skills. The sentence that my achievements are on the shoulder of many great people before, which is said by Neton, can also explain the all the basements of the creation are strong fundamental skills.

In the whole, if there is no united curriculum from the nation to all the middle schools in the society, no fundamental skills or no education utility to the society will exist. And if that, the society will be no stronger before.

Issue 34：”Instead of requiring students to take courses in a variety of disciplines that is, courses ranging from the arts and the humanities to the physical and biological sciences colleges and universities should allow students to enroll only in those courses that will help prepare them for jobs in their chosen fields. Such concentration is necessary in today’s increasingly work oriented society.”
与其要求学生们选修各种各样的学科——从艺术和人文科学到物理和生物科学——大学还不如允许学生们仅仅去选择那些有助于他们今后工作的学科。这种集中在当今这个工作至上的社会是必要的。

There are more and more fundamental curricula in the university. And many people claim that there is no function of the much more curricula to finding some jobs in the society for the students. And the students in the university have better to choose those courses which can be benefit for their jobs in the future. But I don’t agree this argument and the fundamental courses are much more important than the special courses when the students confront the pressure of finding some jobs in the society.

The fundamental curricula are helpful for the students to develop their fundamental skills which are very important and very useful in the society. Finding a job to one people is very easy, but it is very difficulty to find a good and effective job in the society, which the people are interested in and want to devote all themselves to. But the fundament skills can only learned from many drillings in the fundamental courses and the communications among many courses. Klinton is the case in point. He is lawyer from the Yenu University in the United States. But he studies many courses in the library when he is student. And he is also very interested in the Arts, Physicals and Humanism. So just this studies for many things is the most successful factor of his achieving to the Present of Unite States. When he is the present of the Unite States, he also uses the economics knowledge to solve many problems in the history and make the first period without the deficits of the government budgets in the modern society, although there are still many contributions to the society by the knowledge of law, which is his major in the university. I think if he didn’t see many fundamental curricula by himself in the library, maybe there would be no existence of one of the excellent histories in the Unite States and there would be still the fierce deficit in its government budget.

Obviously, there is another important function of the fundamental curricula, which is that the fundamental curricula can give some accomplishment to the students in order to let them develop themselves to make the positive utility to the society. If the education bureau only gives the special courses, which are said there will be some benefits to the future jobs, the students will know the special knowledge about their majors and it is very harmful for them to develop other skills. And the accomplishments not only will give some benefits to the students in order to let them recognize the society, face much more problems without pressure, absorb the manners of the society and make themselves to appreciate for many situations, but also can lead to the maximization of the society utility, the baptism of the whole society and the development of society essentially. So the fundamental curricula are much more important than the special courses.

Many people will maintain that they just want to do the job communicated with the majors which they study. And it is necessary for them to study only the special courses. But the opposition is the fact. As an survey report in the England said, it si the fact that there are nearly 73.4% students not to do the jobs communicated with their majors exactly and 13.7% students are not keeping the interested in the jobs long so that they change the jobs many times. So there are much more students, who only have the profess training without the fundamental education, not to find the appreciated jobs when they reject their original jobs and many of them to back to the schools for other skills’ studying according to another report in Australia. And only those people who have the special courses based on the fundamental curricula can change the jobs very easily and find the most appreciated jobs by themselves.

Although the special curricula are very important and special to students, who want to find some jobs after the education in the university. The fundamental curricula are much more important because of its basement function to the special curricula and the society.

What is the benefit to go to study in the university? The answer is very confused. Some people think that they can study by themselves and maybe there will be acquiring much more things in this way, which is much better that the study way to pursue the degree of the undergraduate. But other people argued that the studies under the university are very important and if there are no studies in the university, no achievement in the society will exist. Both of their opinions are very appreciated for the society, but I think it will be much better if there is a balance between the two ways in studying.

As all the students known, there are many advantages of the way to study in researching and reading by themselves. Such as that you can make yourself to the studies and find some interesting phenomenon which maybe one of the greatest findings in the future. Many of the scientists are researching many sciences by themselves. Obviously, many people think that there is no special knowledge in the course and they want to do much more things than they do in the course if they want to make some achievements in some areas. So this fact gives imaginations that the course would give you nothing and all the achievements have been come from the research and study by themselves. But they don’t know the scientists studied many fundamental skills before the research through some regular educations. Of course, there are many disadvantages for this way. One of the most important disadvantages is that no one can study both the fundamental skills and the researches in the limit time only for four years. The limited time in the university can’t bring anything to the students only the interested in the research and the fundamental skills about it.

On the other hand, we either won’t focus on the study for the degree of the scholar. Why? Is it very utilitarian? I don’t think so. The courses in the education for the degree of scholar are very necessary to every student so as to let them be good at fundamental knowledge. And only the pressure can bring the strong fundamental knowledge to them who will want to do some research in the majors. If no the fundamental curricula exist, no effective and efficient research will be do and maybe there are many people to make some recognized research without the message acquiring from the courses.

We all pursue the maximization of the utility to the society rationally. And obviously we will want to pursue the best way to solve some problems under the situation that there are both advantages and disadvantages between them. So the balance of them is better than ever and the best way to study in the university is studying for the researching by themselves and the regular course which maybe can be said to pursue the degree of scholar.
