Description:

The Hu lab in the Departmentof Statistical and Actuarial Sciences at Western University,Canada has multiple fully funded MSc/PhD positions in statistics. Thesuccessful candidates will be co-supervised with Dr. Wenqing He in thedepartment. Western University rankswithin the top 10 research-intensive universities in Canada and top 200 in theworld (The Times Higher Education World University Rankings2023). Dr. Hu is a Canada Research Chair in Computational Approaches to HealthResearch and has excellent experience in mentoring trainees at differentlevels. Many of his trainees have received international and national awards,accepted into top graduate schools (like Oxford, Cambridge, UCLA, CMU, Toronto,UBC, McGill), employed in high-tech companies (like Google, Microsoft, Amazon),and landed tenure-track professor position with nomination for Canada ResearchChair.

Responsibilities:The successful candidate is expected to join aninterdisciplinary team to develop innovative statistical methods, especiallythe new frameworks to integrate statistical modeling and deep learning algorithmsto analyze multimodal data in one or two of the four areas: medical imaginganalysis, genomic data integration, single cell RNA-seq and spatial transcriptomics,and drug design and discovery.

Qualifications:
1). A minimum BSc degree in (bio)statistics. For candidateswith only BSc degree but want to apply for PhD program, they can be transferredinto PhD program in the end of first year and all the courses taken in thefirst year will be counted as a part of the PhD program.

2). Solidmath and statistical backgrounds and familiar with different deep learning architectures.

3). have solid programming skills (R, Python and/orC, etc.), and acquaintance with Linux.

4). GPA>80%.

5). Strong written andcommunication skills.

6). meet one of the following English test requirement:
Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL):250, computer based; internet based test (iBT) 90, with no individual scorelower than 22; International English Language Testing Service (IELTS): 6.5 outof 9;
