------题目------
The following appeared in a letter to the editor of the Walnut Grove town newspaper.
'Walnut Grove's town council has advocated switching from EZ Disposal (which has had the contract for trash collection services in Walnut Grove for the past ten years) to ABC Waste, because EZ recently raised its monthly fee from $2,000 to $2,500 a month, whereas ABC's fee is still $2,000. But the town council is mistaken; we should continue using EZ. EZ collects trash twice a week, while ABC collects only once. Moreover, EZ—which, like ABC, currently has a fleet of 20 trucks—has ordered additional trucks. Finally, EZ provides exceptional service: 80 percent of respondents to last year's town survey agreed that they were 'satisfied' with EZ's performance.'
------正文------
In this argument the arguer concludes that the town council should not replace EZ Disposal Company for trash collection services to ABC Waste. Although he provides evidence that seems plausible, after careful examination they are not rational.

To begin with, the arguer based on an unwarranted assumption that EZ could make their areas much cleaner. This argument mentions that EZ collects trash more often than ABC, but how much trash is collected once by each company is not provided. It is very likely that every time EZ can only collect part of trash people deposed, while ABC collects all trash at one time during a week. In this sense, even if EZ collects trash more frequently than the other, the last result may not as good as that of ABC. What is more, since the arguer does not tell us how much trash citizens desert, we cannot rule out the possibility that they produce a little amount of trash in a week, and colleting twice a week is a waste and also not necessary.

Secondly, the arguer conducted an incomplete comparison. He mentions that EZ which, like ABC, currently has a fleet of 20 trucks, has ordered additional trucks. How about ABC Company. It is possible that ABC may have ordered more trucks than EZ. Even if ABC has not ordered by now, we cannot rule out the possible that they may order in the near future. Furthermore, without telling the average total trash in Walnut Grove now, we cannot rule out the possible that 20 trucks are enough to collect those trashes and there is no need to buy others.

Thirdly, the survey mentioned in the argument is suspect. Since it does not tell us how many people are inquired in the survey and the percentage of people who respond to the survey. It is highly possible that only very few people respond it and therefore their views may be not representative. In addition, the arguer does not mention people’s attitude about ABC Company, hence we cannot rule out the possibility that people are not only satisfied with ABC’s performance, but also have a higher evaluation that that of EZ.

Last but not least, the arguer fails to consider bad effects of going on using EZ. For example, it charged more money than ABC per month. He does not mention the finance condition of their government now. If they are short of money or have allocate much money to other more important things, in the following years choosing ABC that charges $500 less than EZ per month undoubtedly is a wise choice.

In conclusion, the argument is specious. In order to convince the city council, the arguer should provide more information about the two companies and people’s real evaluation to both of them.
