Art works, abstract but full of beauty, targeting to reassure people's mental pressure and intrigue one's thinking of the complexity and mystery of life and human well-beings, brings about great value to society some way or another. But when comes to the question who - artist or critic - on earth delivers the meaning of the abstract and even abstruse staff to general populace and gives society something of lasting value, it presents a hard and tough nut to crack. In my opinion, nevertheless, the artist does most of the thing, while the critic also contributes a lot in a sense.

Obviously, it is the artist who bring about lasting value for the simply reason that art works which has a value is created by them rather than by the critic. Artist, astute and insightful, always presents the real world and their mental psychology by their own way of expression such as painting, music, film, drama, dance and other form of art. Actually, these kinds of art works construct a strong but fascinating bridge directly to shorten the seemingly long distance between artist and general populace in a subliminal way, which render any critics about such art works to be a waste and superabundance. Especially in the realm of music, one can naturally feel the depth of heart and absolute reassure when the rhythm and beat is instilled in one's ear and ultimately reach his/her heart. Hardly can I imagine that one cannot be touched on hearing the Symphony Nine of Beethoven or fine music works of Mozart. Take dance another example, beauty - which is considered to be a lasting value - is replete in the dance per se but not critic's comment. When I saw Dance River - a well known Broadway drama, I can easily touched by the grace dancing gesture and beat of feet companied with beautiful songs. In short, beauty is being in the art works mixed with artist's blood and tears, sweet and sorrow, heart and soul, all of which cannot be well interpreted by a third people.

However, not only the artist offers lasting value to the society, but also the critic works the same magic collaborated with the artist sometimes, especially in the realms of painting and novel. On one hand, the critic presents a diverse array of interpretation of over abstract art works the intrinsic meaning of which cannot be easily understood by masses. For example, people who have not learned something about abstract painting always feel themselves like a bull in a china shop when in a gallery stuffed with abstraction. Without any interpretation, most people may figure the bizarre abstraction to be the art of ET(extraterrestrial being). Quite on the other hand, the critic excavates and extrapolates the inherent meaning of art works, which often render a further thinking about society, history, life conditions and so forth. A case in point is a large amount of critics about a famous Chinese novel – A Dream of Red Mansions, it is the critics who found the great value of this book and gradually form Redology- a cultural research on this fiction mainly dwelling on every respect of this novel ranging from masses of graceful poems to the social background at that time, all of which, conducted by the critic, bring society a lasting value.

All in all, there is no need to slice the great contribution to the society between the artist and the critic. In fact, it is the artist who bestows his/her creation a life and lasting value with all the emotion from the bottom of his/her heart, while the critic offering insightful and comprehensive thinking can also give society a lasting value.
