In the era that our physical needs have been greatly met leading to the promotion of people's attention on the aspect of mental life there exists a pop belief that the arts, such as painting, music, literature and the like reveal the otherwise hidden ideas and impulses of a society. Just logical, the argument may be, however it is not complete at all. Therefore I advocate that the arts reflect both the hidden and the orthodox ideas and impulses of a society.

The human history of thousands of years witnessed a fact that arts sometimes always reflect the mainstream of a society. In most cases, the arts created by artists are not born only for purpose of art but also for giving the mass a kind of ethics, customs, and conformity. From the painting of Venus' naissance, one could know that what is the core of love by the appealing face of Venus and be cognitive of the truth that love is always connected with desire by the appearance of God of Desire; From the Vinci’s great work Mona Lisa, one could read out what is real beauty from Mona Lisa's mysterious smile besides that of Venus which is due to the magic of her golden girdle; From Michelangelo’s fantastic fresco in the Sistine chapel, one could generate the awe to the God for an uncertain impulse; From the Beethoven’s symphony of fate, one could be aware that he or she should be strong and struggle for a better life no matter what fate he or she owned; From Homer Epic, one could understand the importance of devotion to love by the fates of lovers of Zeus whether due to Hera or not. All these in the proceeding discussion reveal that a great number of accepted values, ethics, customs, which are usually called mainstreams, were determined by the work of arts. Therefore the arts sometimes reveal the mainstream of the society.

On the other hand, arts due to its various functions in human society often reveal the hidden ideas and impulses of a society. Homer Epic, a great work whether in ancient times and today, is just an exact case in point. In Homer Epic, from the crucial experience of Oedipus, one could realize that anyone could be a hero, no matter what he has done--------- even killed his father and married with his mother--------- only if he or she could face his or her fallacy and fate directly; from the multifunction of every God, such as Athena------both the Goddess of Wisdom and War, which sometimes contradict with each other, one could conclude that everyone has many sides even the God and Goddess cannot be the exception; From the sculpture of Venus without arms, one could understand another definition of beauty besides the description of Homer's. These are sometimes not accepted by the majority, but with some eternalness, however it is arts that tell these truths to the mass and pass these down from generation to generation.

To sum up, the art conducts its duty by telling people the widely accepted belief and at the identical time it bears the hidden ideas and impulses of a society as well. It acts as an old man with great wisdom, teaching us the orthodoxy at the same time forcing us to think out something heterodox from his myth.

感觉第二段应该强调一下mainstream，你举了很多不错的例子，可是没有说清楚这些例子反映的是当时社会的主流观点。第三段同样也没有论述清楚hidden.

其实我在写的时候就意识到这个问题了，我也强调了，就是那个accepted and unaccepted 但是怎么写才能更突出主题呢？这个问题也是我一直困惑的！

开头的模板痕迹太重了，几乎所有的GRe考生都读了第1篇6分范文，就算是用另外的几篇范文的开头都好多了，我有一个同学也是，动不动就my dean  blalala and I paraphrase老外不烦我都烦了。

关于2楼说的问题，比方说你可以说维纳斯之前所有的雕塑作品都追求绝对的perfect，而维纳斯展示了另外一种 perfect正是这种残缺美是当时的时代需要的等等。例子求精不求多
