138"Only through mistakes can there be discovery or progress."
1 定义mistake为unpredictable fault,
2 抓住unpredictable ,证明由于discovery是unpredictable 的,所以only through mistakes can make discovery为啥因果?
The author uses the term "only" to emphasis that "only "through mistakes can there be discovery or progress. In my point of view, this issue depends on the definition of the term "mistake" while call for a case by case analysis.
First of all, the notion of "mistake" must to identify in order to discuss this issue. Mistake can be understood by its broad definition and its narrow definition. If the term "mistake" means something error or out all predicated that beyond people's imagination, in this meaning, mistake is a broad definition about anything that out of people's thought. 不如直接解释下这就是mistakeTherefore, I agree with the author that discovery might come only from mistakes, but against that the progress is only made by mistakes too.
In this broad definition of mistake, we can assert that only through mistakes can there be discovery. Because the term "discovery” means something are not known or understand yet, therefore discovery cannot be predicated or calculate by anyone. 这个因果关系看不出来,解释下only by the unpredictable mistakes that can people make discovery. For instance, Columbus discovered the American by the mistaken imagination that he can find a new way to India. Also, before Rontgen found the new microwave X-ray, people at his time did not know this kind of rays at all. Rontgen just wanted to explore some iron-contained metal under a black cover material, it was a mistake that he put the stone contained U235 (one of the high element Uranium), and the next he found his data irregular that there is something can transfer the black cover material, that is X-ray, he make this discovery. In short, just because discovery can not be calculated or predicated, people only though mistakes can make discovery.
But as to the progress, it is totally different. I disagree that "only" through mistakes can there be progress. We can make progress by a myriad of alternative aspects, such as the well-designed program, the correctly-calculated formula, can also contribute to the progress. The reason is simple to see, progress can be predicated, such as the Apollo project, which make the significant progress on human history, is predated thoroughly with thousands of hundreds of companies and a myriad of scientists cooperated together for many years. Therefore, it is not merely though mistakes that human being can lunch on the moon,这个不是only的东西是重点,建议好好说一下,还有很多因素,不断的进步,有很多成功的经验借鉴之类 although we can get many critical experiences from mistakes as the Apollo 11th was exploded. The term “only” to emphasis that mistakes play the vital role in progress is unreasonable.
In sum, depend on the definition that the term "mistake" means the unpredictable fault, I agree with the author that discovery might come only from mistakes, but progress comes not only from mistakes.
