第一次叩着倒计时的闪烁把文章敲完，看看日历，离考试还有三天。
没有什么可以庆祝，因为这次的限时成功是我咬牙切齿地在这同一篇文章上一遍遍地把45分钟已到的窗口关掉重新写过这样的三遍重复之后才写成的。你们可以理解不了，可对于我的大脑来说，45分钟就是如此的艰难。写Argument锻炼出的Critical thinking让我拒绝考试时能够限时成功的幻想，只好顶着那篇没写完但得了6分的官方反问聊以自慰。
早应该拿着45分钟逼迫自己……早应该纠正妄想刨根就地而又迟缓散漫的思维方式……
新手以我为戒！！

Is making mistakes the only path to discovery or progress? Observation of daily life and retrospection into the history informs me that making mistakes is the necessary condition in many cases while it is never the sufficient one.

Necessarily, making mistakes is required an unavoidable in the process of discovery. Since the human beings are not omniscient and the world is teeming with uncertainty, trial-and-error should always be taken to make the first stride. Otherwise, people would stay in the same position forever. Common experiences remind us that trial-and-error is frequently used in solving puzzles, especially in unlocking codes with a computer. Further, mistakes are always welcomed in scientific researches. It has become a consensus that only theories which are open to test and able to be proven wrong are really valuable ones while any theory logically watertight such as the Marxist economic theory actually has little merit. In fact, trial-and-error is consistent with human's process of perceiving the world. Our understanding of the astronomy, for example, has evolved from geocentricism through heliocentricism to today's more objective view of the whole universe.

More commonly, making mistakes helps people making progress in daily life. Mistakes serve as mirrors that tell us how we have been and how we have done. Having learned the lessons and acquired the inspiration given by mistakes, people make advancement by avoiding similar mistakes and applying brand-new insight in new problems. I, myself, have made remarkable progress in writing when preparing Analytical Writing Assessment by looking through finding out and summarizing the mistakes that I made in previously written essays.

However, making mistakes does not guarantee the success. In daily life, there are still persons who are not able to benefit from mistakes. Some girls, for example, can be cheated and hurt again and again by a same dishonest fickle man. Thus, without recognizing the mistakes, finding out and analyzing the reason, merely making mistakes can only making things worse. In fact, it is not mistakes themselves, but the summarizing and analyzing that help people to make progress. The situation is actually similar in the process of trial-and-error to make discoveries. Any presumptuous trial without careful plan before hand can only be inefficient. In the above-mentioned cracking codes, for example, a blind method of exhaustion will cost tens or even hundreds of years to crack one single password, while a proper guess or deduction, which determines a sensible limitation of guessing work, can effectively reduce the time to several hours or even minutes. In scientific researches, blind trials are also meaningless. Although a theory is open to mistakes, the set of assumptions that the theory is based on are usually carefully chosen to be as realistic as possible. Therefore, when we say making errors is the only way, we do not mean it as everything.

Moreover, there are some situations that mistakes should be avoided as much as possible. Especially in politics, which may involves the interests of many people or even the whole society, trial-and-error should not be allowed. The Cultural Revolution, initiated by Mao Zedong in 1950's, caused political zealotry, purges of intellectuals and chaos in economy. This tragedy leads to a drastic retreat in academy and economy for the newly born People's Republic of China.

In sum, without a compass, only lighthouses of mistakes illuminate the way of our odyssey to search for the wonderland of knowledge in the ocean of unknown. However, mistake is only a tool, whether it is beneficial or detrimental depends on whether it is properly utilized.
