------题目------
A new study collected data that shows that people who snore are more likely to gain weight than are people who do not snore. It is well known that many people who snore also stop breathing frequently during the night for a few seconds, a condition called sleep apnea. The interruption of breathing wakes the person—often so briefly that the waking goes unnoticed—and can leave the person too tired during the day to exercise. Anyone who snores, therefore, should try to eat less than the average person and to exercise more.
------正文------
The argument suggests that people who snore should try to eat less and to exercise more since they are more likely to gain weight. At the first glance, the argument seems reasonable. After careful scrutiny, however, the argument suffers from several serious fallacies.
To begin with, the arguer fails to convince us that people who snore is likely to do exercise much less. Although people who snore will results in the interruption of breathing which may wake people, the people may not necessarily fell very tired during the day. If people who snore have a long time sleep, they will not fell tired during the day. Also other factors will also help the people fell really in good state even they snore when sleeping. Moreover, granted that the people snore during sleep and fell tired in the day, they still may do enough exercise, not that, as what the arguer says, they will do little exercise.
Granted that people who snore during sleeping have done less exercise as compared with the average people, the arguer still failed to give us a credible reason that they will gain weight. Actually, there are many reasons that will results in gaining weight, for example, the emotional factors, the food high in fat, comfortable life, as well as little exercise as said in the argument. The people do little exercise may take other ways to loose weight, for example, they can do more industrious things, to eat little, even to take some drugs to keep their shape. Thus, do little exercise don't necessitates to gain weight.
Last but not least, assume that the people who snore will have little exercise and gain weight, whether they will surely avoid to gain weight through the suggestions the arguer advocates, eat less and exercise more, is open to doubt. In the first place, eat less will let people haven't enough energy in doing exercise. In the second place, the people who snore will fell tired in the daytime during exercising, so the results of the exercise will be doubtful. Therefore, the suggestions the arguer provided seems not will let the people who snore avoid gaining weight, but, instead, make them fell much more tired and even make them ill. Thus, the suggestions may be detrimental to the people's health.
To sum up, the arguer suffers from some crucial fallacies and the final suggestions are not so reasonable that will detrimental to people's health. To bolster his or her argument, the arguer should provide more convincing reasons for his or her analysis and the suggestions he or she advocates. |
