The video camera provides such an accurate and convincing record of contemporary life that it has become a more important form of documentation than written records.
-----------------------------------------------------------------
b1: video camera : accurate convenient
b2: written records : inexpensive and efficient
b3: to better master something, written record is a better choice
-----------------------------------------------------------------
As technology advances, the video camera has played a significant role in people's daily lives since it provides an accurate and convincing record of contemporary life. Therefore, some people tend to consider the video camera a more important form of documentation than written records. In my point of view, however, I fundamentally disagree with this assertion since written form has irreplaceable advantages over the vide form.
Admittedly, the video camera is accurate in documenting some spatial or visual things. With the aid of this high technology, people could record everything they want. Because of its accuracy, what the video camera documents is really what happens everyday without any revision or adjustment. And due to this reason, the video cameras are widely used in all kinds of work in people's lives. For instance, the video form of documentation could be used in court as strong pieces of evidence to support the assertion. Furthermore, nowadays many video cameras have been installed on intersections or cross street on roads in order to record whether there is any illegal driving such as overspeed and so forth. In addition, the video camera is also convenient. Since you only have to choose a good perspective and push a button, all that happens would undoubtedly be recorded. And as the technology develops in an unprecedented speed, the video camera is much smaller for people to take it conveniently with them.
However, it is not to say that the video form has become the primary form of documentation since the traditional form--written record has had its distinct predominance over the video form. On the one hand, the written form is more efficient in documenting some events. For instance, to comprehensively record an event, the video form has to record it from all kinds of perspectives or angles. What is more, to make the record objective and persuasive, people should try to take the video camera to record almost every detail in the event. Furthermore, think about the cost of the video form. It would cost a huge amount of money and films to fully record such an event. But things are different when we refer to the written records. Book, a particular form of written records, is widely used owing to its high efficiency in comprehensively recording things. Only a small number of pages could successfully describe detailed information concerning the whole situation of an event because of the efficiency of words as an effective way of recording. For instance, a book could specifically depict and record an historical event such as the French revolution or the detailed process of founding of People's Republic of China. Moreover, compared with high price of the video camera and corresponding films, written records are more inexpensive for people to afford.
On the other hand, in order to make people have a broad understanding of the essentials of something such as elusive theories or hypothesis, the written records would be a better choice other than the video form. For instance, to make people acquaint with the abstruse theory of quantum, the video form of recording could only provide people with nothing but some superficially related knowledge, while through reading written records people could derive plenty of related knowledge such as the elements or principle and applicable environment and some limits and the like which are of vital importance for people to fully understand and master such kind of theory from all kinds of perspectives.
To sum up, though the video cameras have some advantages in documentation, it could never substitute for the written forms in that they have got irreplaceable advantages over the former. |
