Education will be truly effective only when it is specifically designed to meet the individual needs and interests of each student.
------正文------
To discuss this issue, one must begin with the assumption that resources are limited, as they almost always are, and therefore an effective educational system depends entirely on the necessity of reaching its fullest potential based on those finite resources. Those resources would include the total number of teachers as well as educational infrastructure. As an absolute statement, using the standard that whether education meets all individual needs and interests of each student seems to be impartial and ideal standard to define an effective educational system. In reality, the educational recourse and the phase of education all determine to a large extent whether education should set the needs and interests of students for the first priority.
First of all, consideration must be given to the stage of education, each of which plays a different role in the cultivating of a student. Was the specific education aimed only at university students or primary school students or simply toward general students of different ages? To the extent that the educational methods are determined by the students for whom the education serves, obviously the result of the certain education may be more or less effective with respect to the entire students, depending on what is stage to which these students have developed. Students who is so young and do not have the full ability for self-determination are not fit the education with all free choices. Effective education may not be achieved because these young students are so naive that they may not know what exactly their needs and interests are, they may simply perceive what is attracting or what do not require hard work are their needs, they don’t take what is the useful for their future as their standard for their choice. Effective thus will vary greatly for each student depending on whether he or she has developed to the stage where he or she knows what is best for him/her.
Another variable is the educational resource that is involved in the process of education. In some places, there are simply few teachers and classrooms as well as other utilities used for education as they are merely poor towns or villages that even lack adequate money to properly feed their own population. In these places, if we require an education meets all student’s needs, then the only solution is that the time of the teacher should be divided into small pieces or the utilities should be used by students one by one. As a result, every student could only be educated for a little time far from being enough to be a qualified education. Without enough funding and educational infrastructure only certain kind of education can be performed, education then should firstly meet the requirement to be qualified rather than effective.
While in some cases the personal needs and interest can not be set as a first priority for education, education should try to best meet the requirement of students’ needs and interests in other cases. After all, interests are the best teachers for students. With such kind of education, it is more likely that a student can choose exactly what he or she wishes to take in order to reach his or her fullest potentials. Education that do not consider the needs and interests of students would make them feel boring and tired when they learn what is taught to them, thus affected the effect of education. It is an undeniable fact today’s education system is China underemphasized the needs and interests of students. This educational system mainly used the examination in which the memorization of some given context, rather than some useful skills which meet the needs and interests of students, takes a larger part as one of the main approaches to encourage the students to learn. It is necessary for us to adapt our educational systems to be more effective.
It seems impossible for every educational system to meet the needs and interests of students, the resource, the phase of education all influence the method that an educational system take. But when all factors meet, education should take into account what the students need and what they interested in.
