ISSUE27: No one can possibly achieve success in the world by conforming to conventional practices and conventional ways of thinking.

Is it real that no one can possibly achieve success in the world by comforming to conventional practices and conventional ways of thinking as the author asserts? From my point of view, I fundamentally agree with this statement insofar as the importance of not confined by conventional practices and ways of thinking. Nevertheless, in some points, I also consider conventional practices and ways of thinking still own some merits as explicit paradigms for people to obtain useful knowledge or experience.

To begin with, as society and science advance on a fast speed, conventional practices and conventional ways of thinking in most cases stand as limitations on people to make breakthroughs. Since everything is changing from time to time, conventions could necessarily make people limited by old theories or standpoints. When we refer to history, numerous incidences serve as fit corroborations to this very point of view. On the one hand, in the science fields, conventional theories or ideas often serve as extraordinary limitations for people to think freely and treat things from various perspectives. Uncountable hypothesis or breakthrough in science could be greatly attributed to creativity or originality. The well-known scientist, Newton, is a suitable example to this point. It is entirely possible that he was not the only one to notice the phenomenon of gravity. Yet most people at that time were seriously astricted by religious conceptions or thoughts that it was owning to God. Fortunately, Newton treated this seemingly unnoticeable phenomenon from a new perspective using his creativity and originality and finally he discovered gravity and perfectly built up two excellent theories--theory of gravity and classical mechanics, which stand as two signposts in the development of science.

On the other hand, in the fields of art, remarkable success or contributions always result from creativity but not conventional practices or conventional ways of thinking. From the advancement of arts, we could see only a small fraction of the totally numerous artists were excellent as a result of originality. In the very inception of last century, the whole realm of painting was in a depression since at that time most painters treat conventional thoughts and tact as immutable. Yet impressionism, famous for the connotations in the paintings, was not totally confined by those thoughts in their mind. They tried to depict or portray the world from a new perspective. In their works, values lie in their various connotations to express inner world such as attitudes and emotions and the like and especially, their distinct tact of painting. Though they were not popular at first, times serve as powerful catalyst to their final success and widely acknowledgement and apprehension.

However, it is not to say that conventional ideas or thoughts are totally useless. Through comprehensive understanding of conventions, people could necessarily derive beneficial experience and knowledge, which also could help people a lot in pursuing their goals and lead to the final success. For instance, one of the greatest philosopher of old China, Mencius, had fully absorb and utilized conventional thinkings and thoughts handed down from another famous philosopher, Confucius, which helped him to build up his own theory system that make him famous.

To sum up, achieving success often include creativity or originality but not conventions. What we should do is to absorb useful and beneficial knowledge and experience to pave the way to success.
