The video camera provides such an accurate and convincing record of contemporary life that it has become a more important form of documentation than written records.

The speaker contends that video camera has become a more important form of documentation than written records since it provides such an accurate and convincing record of contemporary life. I agree with the speaker insofar as the video camera indeed provides us more accurate and convincing record of contemporary life, however, we should not ignore that written records also plays an important role in recording contemporary life.

To begin with, as equipment for documentation, video camera has its own unique advantage that is it can provide an accurate and vivid record for us. Take writers for example, no matter how skilled or keen he or she is, they can not accurately depict the elegant dancing performed by an excellent dancer; they can not depict how beautiful an exotic flower is; neither can they transmit the profound impact induced by music composed by Beethoven. Based on the various culture and education backgrounds, different people often have entirely opinions about the same thing, let us return to the exotic flower for example, facing the same flower, an artist may see only its beauty, while a botanist may focus his or her attention on what branches of botany does it belong to, at the same time, an medical scientist may more interested in whether it have any ingredients which can cure some diseases. Only video camera can provide visual information for each type of people to take what they want.

Nevertheless, we can not conclude that video camera become a more important form of documentation than written records. For example, while video camera provides us vivid and accurate record of contemporary life, can it tell us what people in the records are thinking about? Think about such scene, while you and you family are playing happily in rural areas and you are using video camera to record such happy scene, suddenly the battery is running out, what will you feel? When composers writing some music or writers form some fictions, can video camera record such kind of thing? Can video camera record some important matters happened three days or many years before? An other shortcomings of video camera is that though they are more pervasive than before, they still too expensive for most of the people. But with written records you will don't fear such thing. And you can take written any time and where as you like.

To more effectively and efficiently document records, we should take advantage of their advantages and avoid their shortcomings. Such using written records to depict what people thinking about, and what happened in some times ago, or entirely record affairs from the begin to the end; and using video camera to record matters which require visual appearance, such as record ballet performance, some exotic scene we have never encountered before.

To sum up, and recording methods both video camera and written records have their unique advantages and disadvantages, both are play an important role in document recording, we should use their advantages and avoid their shortcomings.
